  3. Norwegian Dawn
We had an excellent trip on the Norwegian Dawn Boston-to-Bermuda Cruise! IT was a great way to see the beautiful island, and a fabulous way to get there! Purpose: This trip was a family vacation. My husband and I have 3 girls under 6. We were traveling with a party of 23 that included grandparents and other family members. The trip was booked as a group. Embarkation: The embarkation process was quick and efficient. As soon as we arrived at the terminal. We needed passports for ourselves and birth certificates for the children. As soon as those were presented it was very easy to obtain our room keys and wait to board the ship. Ship: The ship was very clean, and the updates to it were nicely done. It was easy to become acquainted with the different common areas once exploring the ship a few times. The common areas including lounges, restaurants, pool areas, dining, and bathrooms were all extremely clean, and there are several hand sanitizing locations throughout every area. This put me at ease especially when traveling with small children. -Kids Pool: My children enjoyed the kids pool each day. There were two waterslides, along with kids hot tubs and a small pool. There were not many places for adults to sit around the pool, but it was never too crowded so one could usually find a chair. -Adult pool: Some were concerned about the fact that there was only one pool on the ship. This never seemed to be an issue and the pool never seemed overcrowded. People would come and go and there was always room to swim or sit around the edge. Dining: Our group had a 5:30 reservation each night at the Venetian. I would highly recommend reservations for large parties. It was great, we had the same 3 tables each night. The food was great and the menu had options that stayed the same each night, along with 8-10 new appetizers and entree choices. There was plenty of choices for kids as well. We also ate one night at Aqua, and one night at O'Sheehans. Both had great service and great food. The buffet was great for a quick breakfast. Some of our family ate at the Venetian a few days and loved it. The buffet was quick and easy especially with the kids. The breakfast and lunch options were pretty plentiful, but did not change too much day to day. The staff at all restaurants was so nice and all eager to please. Shore Excursions: We did the Restless Native Catamaran but booked it through the company. it was a GREAT trip and I would highly recommend it. Our whole group went and everyone had an awesome time. The people running the excursion were great and there was something for every age! Kids: Our daughters are 5.5, 4, and 14 months and I can safely say they had the time of their lives. I will preface by saying they are big fans of swimming, beaches, and parties so this cruise was a perfect match. The older 2 loved Splash Academy. The hours are 9 AM-12PM, 2:00-5:00 and 7:00-10:30. There are also late night hours that charge a fee. Our girls usually went for an hour or 2 in the morning, and each night they went to the party. Both were nervous at first about going but after the very first time, were asking to go back again. They were in the 3-5 group together. Each night was a different themed party, and they would return with face paint, prizes, and crafts. Splash Academy is awesome! As for our youngest daughter, she was too young for the Splash Academy room, but they did have a "Guppies" area for younger children where parents could bring them to play. There were lots of toys, and they did a class each day. We went to one and it was great! At night while our older 2 were in the Splash parties, we took the youngest with us to shows and activities. ****One suggestion I will make is to be prepared if cruising with children. We had a wonderful time, but there was lots of front-loaded planning that went into the trip. I read many articles on what to pack, and what to expect when cruising with kids. The work we put into preparing definitely paid off, as we had an awesome time. Entertainment: We went to a show each night at the Stardust theater and they were all great! We also liked sitting in many of the lounges listening to music. Norwegian puts a lot of effort into their entertainment and it shows. You are certainly never bored! Port: The Royal Naval Dockyard was a great place. We got off the ship once a day with whatever we needed for the day, but there was certainly the option to go back on and off whenever needed. The disembarking process is pretty easy. The port itself had lots of little shops and most of the excursions left from the port. You were never far away from activity. We took a taxi to Horseshoe Bay Beach the first day with our entire party, and had a great afternoon playing, snorkeling and relaxing on the beach. The second day we shopped around town, and did the catamaran cruise (see above). The final day we took the NCL ferry to St. George's, visited a beach, walked around town, and jumped off the Calico Jack's Pirate Ship back at the Royal Naval Dockyard. It was great!

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Oceanview Picture Window
Cabin OB 5156
Cabin 5156 was at the end of the hall on our ship. We were a bit nervous to fit 5 people in it, but upon arriving at the room, everything worked out perfectly. The room had 2 twin beds that came together as a queen, as well as a roll out bed under the bed, and a bunk that pulled down from the wall. These slept 4 people comfortably. We did ask that a table be removed so that we could fit a pack and play for our youngest. Our amazing stateroom concierge made that possible and we fit into the room perfectly. There were plenty of drawers and closet space for clothes, and we kept the suitcases under the bed so we had room to walk around.

The bathroom was very clean, and had a sink and shower area, separate from the toilet which was very convenient. We kept all toiletries in an over the door shoe organizer so we had all the counter space we needed.

Cleanliness: The room was cleaned twice a day. We had fresh towels whenever needed, and there was always a towel animal at night, much to the delight of our kids. I was very impressed at how neatly the room was kept! See attached pictures for sleeping set up.

Our stateroom concierge was excellent! He knew all of our names within minutes of meeting us, and was always checking in to see if we needed anything. I would definitely book this type of room again!

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Catamaran Cruise
We had a group of 22 people on an afternoon catamaran cruise that left at 2 PM. The ages were mostly adults, with 3 children ages 5.5, 4, and 14 months. We had a nice catamaran ride complete with a guided tour. We anchored in a cove where there were options to snorkel, paddle board, kayak, swim, or just relax in the shallow waters and float. The boat provided snorkel gear, life jackets, noodles, and anything else you needed for beach fun. My oldest daughter enjoyed snorkeling in the caves, while the other two floated in the water. We were at the cove for 2 hours and in the water the entire time. Once done snorkeling, there were complimentary rum swizzles, along with juices, water, and chocolate chip cookies. Most of it was served while we were floating...awesome!

After snorkeling, we returned to the port (docked right across from our ship). It was a great experience and I would highly recommend this excursion!
