We had not been on a river cruise before, only ocean cruises. There are less amenities on a river cruise boat than an ocean cruise boat (no pool, no casino, no store, limited exercise room), but you are so busy exploring every day that you don’t need that. This Rhine River cruise goes to beautiful places at a great time of the year. Most of the cruising happens at night so you end up in a new town to explore each day. The exception was the daytime cruise through the beautiful Rhine gorge filled with ancient castles. The ship was only a couple of years old and like new. The staff was wonderful and you really got to know them since there were only about 120 passengers onboard. The food was delicious! Breakfast and lunches were buffet style and dinners were sit down meals with different selections each day. Avalon was very impressive and I look forward to cruising with them again!
The rooms and bathrooms were very nice - spacious enough, new, clean, with wonderful views out the panoramic windows. There was a sofa, chair, small table, TV, safe, and refrigerator in our room. The beds were super comfortable. There was plenty of closet space with room for carryon suitcases to store under the beds. The only downside was the couple of times we docked next to another boat so our view was another ship’s cabin.
