I knew nothing about river cruises and had really only heard about the most popular one that is advertised on TV. I did some reading, decided on Avalon and am very glad I did. From the very beginning the agents were helpful and answered all of my questions. Intermediate updates kept me apprised of things. We stayed in Amsterdam a few prior to the cruise so we did our own airfare and hotel stay there. On the assigned day we went to the ship to check in...which went flawlessly. From the start the crew was friendly. The stateroom cabins...there were 4 of us..were roomy and very comfortable with loads of storage space. There was dining in the main dining room as well as in one of lounges for those who only wanted something light for breakfast or lunch. Lots of choices for breakfast...including an omelet chef..and for lunch. The dinner menu had 3 choices for entrees but also had staples (chicken, salmon) if none of the choices appealed to you. Wine and beer..as well as soft drinks..were complimentary with lunch and dinner. For evening entertainment there was a piano player in the lounge and for 2 nights there was entertainment from local talent when we stayed in port late. Both the included and optional tours were loads of fun and informative. What really got to me more than anything was the friendliness of the crew. Also..the WiFi was great...and is included!
