We chose this cruise for the itinerary and to see Alaska . The nature and scenery of Alaska was breathtaking . It was a once in a lifetime experience ! We went to the Princess Wilderness Lodges four days before the cruise started . All three Fairbanks Denali and Mt McKinley were very disappointing . The rooms were old and worn and the food was below average. But the excursions we took were fabulous ! We loved both the atv and Jeep excursions on to trails in the wilderness and up the mountains .We also loved the SunDog Kennels where we learned about and played with the Alaskan husky dogs and we were pulled by a team thought wilderness trails and informed about the Alaskan Ididirod 1000 mile race . We also enjoyed the river boat throught a river to an Indian village which was interesting . All the guides on the excursion and transport coaches were friendly and very knowledgeable . We took a six hour train from Talkeetna to the ship in Whitter and saw beautiful scenery . But again we were disappointed to have to wait an hour for the train on a gravel lot in the sun with no seats just standing ! The train got to the ship late and we missed our Club Class dining by 5 minutes and could only go to the buffet which was not good . We found this ship to be old and worn compared to other ship we’ve been on . There were leaks everywhere most terrible in our cabin . There were floods on decks 14 & 15 .Some of the staff were not friendly but our housekeeper was so accommodating and sweet and our head waiter and his staff in Club Class dining were great ! The entertainment was very enjoyable ! The excursions in Skagway Juneau and Ketchikan were very informative and enjoyable . We saw a Lumberjack show the Mendenhall Glacier and took a trolley ride and learned Alaskan history . Cruising Glacier Bay was breathtaking ! We saw bald eagles moose and other wildlife . We went fishing and caught a 38 lb halibut which we sent home and it was delicious. I had a massage on the ships spa which was good but I did not like the after sell of their products. It was much to cold and raining to use the pool but cruising the last day to Vancouver we watched movies on the giagantic screen over the pool and covered ourselves with blankets . We ate pizza and burgers around the pool which were good .After the cruise we spent 2 days in Vancouver at the Westin Bayshore Hotel which was fabulous ! This was a luxury hotel with delicious food and clean beautiful decor . We toured Vancouver went to Stanley park and were impressed at the restaurants and cleanliness of that beautiful city ! We had a nice vacation but were disappointed with the Golden Princess. PS The food was good not great but the specialty restaurants were not worth it ! The night we ate at Sabitinis they ran out of chicken . They said there was no chicken left on the ship which I find hard to believe . It was difficult to get reservations for the specialty restaurants but as we passed them they were always empty with very few people eating in them.we loved Alaska but the ship left much to be desired !
Cabin was clean spacious and very comfortable. The bed and linens were extremely comfortable. The bathroom was very clean and large with a tub . There two large TVs and a very nice sitting area . The balcony was great . This being said the last three days of the cruise we had water leaks coming from the ceiling in our cabin due to an air conditioning problem . Although they sent plumbers it was never fixed and the whole situation freaked me out ! We had dripping and wet towels on the floor etc . We found this unacceptable and were extremely unhappy!
