I chose this cruise because of its itinerary. I generally enjoyed the ports, with the exception of Marseilles where I paid $64.95 for a hop-on-hop-off tour that I could have booked directly for about $22.00. When I attempted to go online and provide reviews of my excursions, I found that Princess does not allow guests this option. Why not allow past passengers to provide feedback for the use of future guests? At Carnival's site, I can read guest reviews of the excursions offered at each port. The food, accommodations, and fitness facilities were comparable to what I have experienced on both Royal Caribbean and Carnival. The entertainment was disappointing as there were no performers from off the ship. My biggest issue was with the staff. 1) The first time I visited the lido deck, I got a 'dirty look' when I passed on using the hand sanitizer. 2) When I was locked out of my room and approached another cabin steward, he directed me to try to find my cabin steward. When I returned and told him my cabin steward was not in the vicinity, he actually left the room he was in and went to confirm my findings. When he could not locate my cabin steward, he finally made a call to have my cabin number temporarily added to his key card. 3)I was informed I was not "allowed" to bring food into Club Fusions (I had brought my dessert from the Lido). 4) It was also in Club Fusion where one of the entertainment staff was egregiously rude to a passenger who called out the answer in a trivia contest. When another passenger called her on it, she responded that she "didn't care" and "he (the passenger who called out the answer) could leave if he was going to do that." 5) Finally, I found the staff generally less friendly and welcoming than in my previous cruise experiences (this was my 21st cruise). On previous cruises, every cabin steward I passed had a greeting. Not on the Crown Princess. All this said, there were some staff members who were friendly and welcoming. Many of the staff members in the Lido met the standard of hospitality I have come to expect on a cruise. Also, kudos to the staff at Guest Services who were always friendly and helpful. I don't know how Princess manages it, but there was never a line when I visited Guest Services. Overall, not what I expected given the price and the Princess reputation.
