This was our first cruise with NCL, after previously cruising on RCL, principally because of good referrals and also the itinerary. Looking back, I felt like the stop in Montenegro wasn't worth the time, especially the long tendering process and because there isn't much to see or do in Kotor. It was also disappointing that we didn't have as much time in Argostoli, Kefalonia (next stop) as the island is magnificent but our stay off the boat was too short. Other than these two issues, the itinerary was perfect. With regards to the ship, I found the entertainment provided to the be highlight of this trip (while onboard). The shows, bands, games and overall feel from the staff kept everyone energized. The stateroom was also great, with lots of space and an attentive staff. We enjoyed the choice of restaurants, although the food was perhaps a bit lackluster (small portions, not always hot) as well as the below average service. Other than our last night, the servers never bothered much to ask if we need another drink or ask whether the food was ok. There is some training needed on the food service staff, especially in the main dining rooms and the pub. I'm glad we had the unlimited beverage package, or we would not have been drinking all week. Without this, the drink costs would be exorbitant. The free-flowing drinks helped around the pool area because of the lack of decorum by some kids was frustrating. There was one NCL pool police guy who tried to keep kids from jumping, splashing others or pushing/shoving other kids, but he wasn’t always around. Embarkation and disembarkation went very smoothly, however, as mentioned previously, the tendering in Kotor was awful with a few people missing their tours. We did two tours with NCL and although these were great, it was a bit frustrating waiting in the theatre for your number to be called to be let off the boat, especially when its not a tendering port. We stayed in Venice two days prior to our departure to visit the city. I’d recommend if you in Venice for a short period of time to stay closer to the bus/train terminal because of the difficulty in navigating the streets/bridges.
The cabin was excellent. We had an attentive steward who always said hello, asked how day went. Whenever we requested anything, it was always done very quickly.
This island is beautiful. We took a tour to visit Melissani Cave and the Myrthos Beach (truly breathtaking) and cannot be missed. I wished we were in Kefalonia longer.
We decided to do a lazy beach day here. You can walk east of the port (about 5-10 mins) to a nice beach. There are a few others past this one also. The water is clear and warm if you just wish to relax.
