My husband & I decided on Scenic because everything was paid for up front, no hidden extras. The ships are smaller, allowing more interaction with passengers and crew.
We arrived in Amsterdam the day prior the cruise departure, mainly to recover from jetlag, but also to revisit a city last seen in 1975. We were very pleased with our decision to arrive early. We walked to the embarkation point and straight onto the ship - so easy.
The days were full of things to do - if you wanted too. The range of different foods was staggering, everyday was an adventure. The crew knew what the word 'Service' means and delivered. The time on shore was well spent and full of surprizes - many varying sites to visit (and not all castles or cathedrals). The selections were very interesting and you wanted to visit all of the places on offer.
Our cabin was spacious for two people. The balcony with fresh air automatic window was wonderful. The cabin was always cleaned and replenished every day - it always looked welcoming. The bathroom was well equipped and very clean.
We enjoyed Rudesheim very much, especially Siegfried's Musikkabinett. I didn't know wood could make should a noise. The cable car ride to Germania was breathtaking.
We took the Romantic Road to Rothenburg and were very lucky to be there on the Medieval Festival Day with blacksmith's, Muskateers and a female choir - singing for beer.
Our excellent young and knowledgeable guide assured us the smoked beer was an acquired taste, we would have to take her word on that !!
The old town tour of Nuremburg was great. Our young guide showed us around a beautiful town. The locks are getting deeper - 19.5M.
We sailed to a monastery in Bavaria. It was very interesting as it's one of the oldest monastic breweries in the world.
After a long coach ride and a wonderful walk around beautiful Salzburg, we hopped back on the coach to lunch and the Salzberg & Sound of Music Show - very entertaining.
