This 7 day cruise to Alaska- the inside passage aboard the Golden Princess was part of a 4 week “Scenic Tour” holiday of Canada and Alaska. Therefor we had no choice in the cruise line or the particulate ship chosen. In saying that I had no reason to be worried about the standard of the boat as “Scenic” traditionally provide 5 star quality accomodation and meals so I expected Princess to maintain this same standard. I was very wrong. The ship was old, drab and outdated in decor and presentation. There were buckets on the floor to catch water from leaking ceilings in 3 main public areas - a main passageway on level 7 outside a bar, just outside the Casino and near the entrance to a theatre. These buckets were there the entire cruise.
There were continually toilet cubicles closed for maintenance in the Ladies Bathrooms outside one of the main dining rooms and outside the theatre. This apart from being unacceptable caused lengthy queues.
The cabin we were in, a balcony cabin, deck 10, cabin 719, was continually dirty regardless of my requests to have it recleaned. The curtains were badly stained and I requested new curtains as soon as I arrived. We were told they would be replaced immediately. They were never replaced regardless of continual requests.
