We always had the dream to go to Hobbiton, New Zealand as we are HUGE LOTR fans. We got that opportunity and see more by traveling on the Diamond Princess from Dec 19-Jan 1 from Sydney to Auckland on an 11 day cruise.

From the start of the embarkation to the end of the cruise, we were treated with respect and care. The food was divine, the service was efficient and prompt, the staff was friendly and attentive. Our room was clean and big enough for 2 (ocean view, partial but not a big deal to us). Since we were traveling during the holidays, we were so pleased to see that the ship was decorated with Christmas decor as well as playing Christmas music and festive shows. The ports were all wonderful (missed our early port to Tauranga due to rough seas, but were told the truth of that by the Captain) and we enjoyed many excursions. (We actually booked our own excursions to save some $$).

The entertainment included trivia games (loved these) as well as live music by "The Drop" plus the evening performances in the Theater. We enjoyed all of these times. Even the teen boys we traveled with seemed pleased with their cruise as they participated in the Teen Center. They were thrilled that they could eat at any time they wanted! Read more
