This was our 3rd family cruise, and our first with Princess. We are a family of 3, with a preteen daughter.
We picked this cruise, because we wanted to see Hubbard Glacier and Glacier Bay.
The itinerary and the breath taking vistas did not disappoint.
The ship itself has seen better days though. Even after the latest refurbishments, it is evident that the vessel is old. Public areas are much nicer, but our balcony cabin's furniture was worn out and carpet looked stained and dirty.
Ship's staff was hit-and-miss. MDR food was ok, and wait staff was friendly and accommodating. We didn't use Horizon Court much as the food quality resembled shopping mall food court. International Cafe was much appreciated. We also bought a coffee card, but tbh everything we got tasted warm, sweet and milky regardless of what we ordered.
Attention to detail is not their strong suit. And some people were not polite. Spa reservation desk girls were particularly impatient and rude. And the lady at Captain's Circle desk gave us curt answers without even lifting her head to look us in the face.
Evening entertainment did not impress us, but one lady vocalist (the one out of LA) was really good.
All in all, we do not regret our trip. Princess is one of the very few cruise lines that goes to Glacier Bay, and was better suited to our family. With Mother Nature as the main attraction, we were willing to overlook the rest.
I saw a lot of reviewers complain about disembarkation, but ours went really smoothly. We were assigned to the 9 am group. We left the ship in a very timely manner, and our luggage was waiting for us as we got out. Breezed through customs, and quickly got a cab. We were in our downtown hotel in less than 1 hr.
Beds were recently refurbished, so they were ok. Few of the pillows had a musty smell- so we sprayed them with perfume. Daughter got a stained duvet which was yucky and got changed to a blanket upon our request.
Carpets were old and dirty. Furniture old too, to the point the drawers needed an extra push to close.
Plenty of closet and shelf space. Balcony was decent. 3 of us could fit without problems.
