Great service, great food. Very enjoyable two weeks. The shore excursions were well done. Would have given it a 4 1/2 ratting if that had been available, We would recommended it to friends and family. Now the down side. Viking is a victim of its own success. There are too many Viking boats on the river. Several times we could not dock at the stated destination but had to be bussed to and from the boat. This was particularly bad on our visit to Kinderdijk. We docked at Rotterdam and spent at least 45 minutes each way on a bus to Kinderdijk. At Kinderdijk we had to rush through the planned excursion which was hard on some of the older passengers on the tour. While we rushed and wasted time there was another Viking boat docked right at Kinderdijk. We are sure they had a much more pleasant Viking experience. Too many boats - not enough dock space. We opted for the two day extension in Amsterdam. Very nice hotel but away from city center. We had to take a 3 Euro tram ride to get there. We were told there was no room near there at the time, but we did hear from guests from another Viking boat that were able to get a hotel near the city center in their extension. One last complaint deals with the touted "free WiFi" on Viking. It was free but for the most part useless. Could not connect with outside websites, outgoing emails sometimes took a day or too to go out. Can understand poor service while the boat is underway but not when it docked. Tour director blamed it on the satellite connection.
