My wife and I (Low 50s) sailed with our adult children (Mid 20s), all of us are experienced cruisers and only sail with Royal Caribbean. We’re all Platinum status as of this cruise.
San Juan: We flew to San Juan a few days before sailing and stayed at a Courtyard, the place was very nice and only 3 minutes from the port. This Courtyard has a pool, restaurant, lounge, exercise room and taxi service out front. The rooms were as you’d expect from the Courtyard chain and the staff were very friendly. We used points for the hotel so I can’t comment on the price. There are numerous restaurants on the street and the neighborhood appeared to be safe and well traveled
Embarkation: We checked out of our room about 11:10 am after a great breakfast in the hotel lounge and took a taxi to the cruise port. The traffic was heavy and it was pouring rain when we arrived but the taxi driver felt it was unacceptable for us to walk through the rain in order to get to the terminal so he did a little unauthorized off roading (Driving across the grass) to get us under the covered baggage area. He couldn’t have been any friendlier and accommodating
Cabin # 8644, just aft of mid-line. We like cabins in this area of the ship because of the stability and proximity to everything. The cabin was clean and in great condition, there’s nothing I can complain about. One day someone flushed something they shouldn’t have and the toilets from deck 6 on up to the top stopped working, not the crews fault but they had the problem resolved pretty quickly. Our cabin steward Mark took the time to introduce himself to us before we sailed and that’s something I appreciated as we were able to get each others schedule. This may not sound like much but getting out of each other's way when he needs to do his work makes for a happier steward and much more comfortable passengers.
Still storm visible damage but the people are upbeat and seem pleased to have the tourism back on the island.
We took a taxi to a beach and enjoyed the sun and waves.
