Trip Details
  • Sail Date: Jun 2018
  • Destination: the Mediterranean

As a regular cruiser with thomson now marella cruises, we decide to try the oldest vessel in the fleet, the ship itself is well worn but that is expected, The noise of the vessel is bearable and the permanent shaking whilst either sitting relaxed or in one of the bars is all part of sailing with an old ship. But my wife's and I main concern aswel as other passengers was the most important thing on a 2 week cruise, was the meals. You expect after having paid a large amount of money for 2 weeks, is decent meals, in the two weeks we were there we never had one meal that you could actually say we enjoyed every meal from breakfast to evening dinner was cold,.the toast itself was something you could actually line your floors with it must have been prepared very very early in the morning, if the meals were hot as we brits.like our meals then there would be no problem the quantity and quality were perfect but COLD. The drinks package INC was a leg down from other TUI ships and they are different as I compared the package witth the Dream when alongside in Gibraltar, frozen cocktails, extra, a few more cocktails, extra, Bailey's, extra, whiskey the cheap brand, (Johnny walker ) Dream is Balantines and only one draught which was San Miguel, John Smith's cans, Boddingtons, cans, Fosters extra. Now getting to shoreside, the berths in several places a long way from the actual town centres thus paying a £7.00 each return bus fare or walk. If you go to Portugal then from Porto, leave the the ship proceed through the main gate turn right, look for the big white bridge, proceed go in the lift or walk the stair, (1 storey, cross the bridge, go down in the lift look to your left and head toward the city center20 mins and £14. 00 better off, there is a couple more ports but I'm sure if you stand on deck after your cold breakfast you can see and work the route out, unfortunately those who have difficulty in walking then it's the bus. Now the entertainment, I'm not going to say fantastic, but yes its worth going to it passes an hour or so and is entertaing they are all young but some day will be experienced, Wednesday's is the guest comedian, that is a definite get your place early, best seats ate on the balcony, and Friday once again, the comedian 10.30 am. Now we shall go to the staff, I cannot fault these ladies and gentlemen they are absolutely superb , don't be like some ignorant people and shout or demand because they are exactly the same as ourselves, (human) they will serve you when you want it they will ask you on a regular basis if you require anything, your glass will never be empty, (even though the drinks package isn't as good as other vessels) Raffles say hi to King Farouk, look for Anna she is number one, Helen I could go on everyone of the staff will definitely make your holiday.

Bon Voyage

calm winds and fair seas.
