We were keen to see some places that we had never been and most likely would not otherwise see. Therefore we decided on the Grand British Isles Discovery this time. We had a great time and the only port where we could not get off the ship was St. Peter Port, where some people did manage to get to the island by tender but the sea swells became dangerously high and thus the captain sensibly decided to stop the use of tenders. He did ask a local larger vessel if they might be able to assist but the tides made it impossible to get close enough. To those who complain about missing ports on some cruises I really do believe that the captain us the best judge of suitable sea conditions and not the passengers. A sunny day and calm seas do not always mean all is well. There are currents and changing winds, etch to consider,
We had a great time and enjoyed all the ports. The service on the ship was, as usual, excellent. Not one member of staff was ever rude or showed an uncaring attitude, quite the reverse. The staff serving drinks on the pool deck made every effort to serve quickly and always with a really friendly and positive attitude. The cleaning staff, not just the steward looking after our cabin, were all a real credit to CMV. Every one of them that we came across smoked and passed the time of day, etch.
The entertainment team were really very good and the new cruise director is an excellent choice by CMV as he witty, keen and informative without being too over the top.
Nice cabin with twin beds and nice picture window. More than sufficient storage space, beds comfortable. Bathroom sink is a bit old but shower is excellent, very powerful with plentiful supply of hot water..
