I chose this cruise because it was outside of school holidays and looked like it would give me a few days of rest and relaxation for for a reasonable price. The ship was swarming with kids.
I must say I was extremely disappointed.
This is my third cruise and the worst of the three.
There are five different restaurants/dining facilities on this ship but only two are included in the fare price. In the waterfront restaurant (the one with table service) the servings are disgustingly small and although you can order as many servings as you like it ruins the ambience to have to order two or three servings just to get a reasonable serving.
If a steak is preferred then there is another $20 charge. Lobster is another $25.
The “pantry” restaurant is a free for all buffet but is not self service. The food is cooked then put into trays for serving by the staff. It is cooked and if it is not eaten immediately it sits until it is cold and tough. Poached eggs can be bounced around the restaurant. There were several Chinese passengers but very few of them ate the Chinese food. The food was basically the same everyday, although one lunch had roast lamb but this had been sitting so long it was cold.
There is a dress standard on cruise ships but this was not enforced. It was common to be sitting down for dinner with someone in bare feet, shorts and singlet, some diners also wore hoodies. Fair enough they are on holiday, but so was I.
Bar service was only just acceptable, whilst the stewards were generally pretty good sometime they would be missing in action - even when the bar was quiet. Some of the staff behind the bars were in a world of their own and didn't seem too interested in the paying customer.
I had to ask the cabin steward to change my sheets. The sheets and pillow cases had tiny cotton buds on them (not sure what they’re called). There was a tear in the valance, tatty threads on the chair in the cabin, general tackiness.
The nightly shows in the auditorium were much of a muchness same five singers doing slightly different routines. Couple of comedians one very good the other average.
The staff night was probably the best of the lot and they did it for free.
Every seminar ended with the presenter trying to sell something.
Generally this was the worst cruise I have been on and I will not cruise with P & O again until they can wake their ideas up.
The four separate stops in Vanuatu were excellent.
A bit tired needs a spruce up
