This was my 8th cruise, and first on Norwegian Cruise Lines (and last on Norweigan!) I have raved about the food and service on all of the previous cruises that I have been on, but found the food to be mediocre at best on Norwegian, and with the exception of our cabin steward, the service to be dismal. We walked out of the dining room several nights, without getting our dessert or coffee, as the servers never came back. If you did get coffee, a refill was extremely unlikely. On other cruises if you left a drop of food on your plate the waiter would check to make sure everything was ok with the food -here they just say "you done" if anything! Some people were waiting at their table for more than an hour without getting served! You prepay service charges, and then eat most of your meals at the buffet, because the service is so bad, or on shore at port! They refused to honror the "Free at Sea" promotion that we paid for by buying an upgraded room, blaming it on our travel agent not sending it to them, and then later trying to blame us for it - even though it was printed on the Norwegian Cruise Lines official boarding documents we had from them. There was no customer service person on the ship to fix so they had to email headquarters in Miami, which took almost three days to respond. They did honor the original promotion we took, which was later supposed to be changed to a different promotion, which they refused. They saved a hundred bucks, and lost our business forever! Many people on the cruise were complaining about both the service and being ripped off on the "Free at Sea" promotion. Not getting the package they ordered, getting a "free" drinks package, which costs almost a couple hundred dollars in service charges, only to find out you have to pay for water! The service problem of poor and indifferent service seems to start at the top and work its way down, and with prepaid gratuity there is no motivation to provide good service. The itinerary was great. And the shore excursions we took through the cruise were good and well organized. Some of the shows were surprisingly good. But like everything else the cruising line tries to cheat you at every turn - a shore excursion that was supposed to come with a bottle of water and a snack - did not - no one knew anything about it, but would be glad to sell you a bottle of water for $5.50! A menu item describing "a la mode" came, eventually without ice cream, my wife felt bad enough (being body conscious) having to beg for dessert, begging for it to come with the advertised ice cream left her almost in tears, after all of the other terrible service. A menu item advertised as having 5 of something would show up with three, if you asked, and waited forever the would bring more, but why should you have to fight and beg for things that were promised to begin with? We spent hours of our vacation at the customer service counter trying to get get basic things we were promised and entitled to! We worked hard for the more than $8k we spent on this vacation, and unfortunately trusted our vacation to Norwegian Cruise lines! Never again.

This was my 8th cruise, and first on Norwegian Cruise Lines (and last on Norweigan!)

I have raved about the food and service on all of the previous cruises that I have been on, but found the food to be mediocre at best on Norwegian, and with the exception of our cabin steward, the service to be dismal.

We walked out of the dining room several nights, without getting our dessert or coffee, as the servers never came back. If you did get coffee, a refill was extremely unlikely. Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Inside
Cabin IA 10051
Cabin was nice and fairly spacious for a ship. The service our cabin steward was the only excellent service we received, the rest of the service on the ship was poor and indifferent.

We ranted a car at the port and went to Myrotissa Beach, near Glyfada beach. This side of the island has normally sandy beaches as opposed to the rocky beaches elsewhere, but a storm in March wipe out a lot of the sand, making it rockier than normal. It is at the base of a cliff and not very easy to get to. We thought the road ended as many people parked at the top of the road and walked down what we thought was a walk way (it was actually the road.) There are step steps going down to the beach, A wonderful couple have setup a shop on the beach renting chairs, umbrellas, and selling food and drinks. All the food was fresh and being made to order. Fresh fruit which had just been cut, piled with Greek yogurt and local honey, and made to order sandwiches from this lovely couple (the wife seemed to be fluent in six or more languages!) The beach is clothing optional with the vast majority going without clothing. The ages ranged fro 10 to 80, ranged from thin to fat, from "perfect" model types to the whole range of body types, gay, straight and families, with everyone seemingly comfortable. The setting was very scenic and it was another highlight of our trip and our only real beach day.

Beautiful and charming. Great tour guide who was enthusiastic and lived in the walled city. Enjoyed the sights, food, and people. Very easy to get into from the ship, no hassles entering of leaving Croatia, or any hassles there. Our tour guide did warn us to be aware of pick pockets. We did not encounter any problems, and appreciated someone warning of a potential problem as opposed to trying to cover up the fact that they sometimes have problems (just like any other place that has a lot of tourists.) I original thought Croatia, maybe we will make those days stay on ship days - but am glad we went. Would definitely go back!

  • Olympia Archeological Tour
Great look at historic sites and ruins. Was surprised at how poor this part of Greece was, it seemed like we were in a third world country. There is an out building with bathroom facilities, no toilet seats, which may or may not have toilet paper. None of the museum buildings have public bathrooms, or air conditioning so be forewarned. There is shopping in the local town with shops, a beautiful hotel, and many restaurants which do have facilities within walking distance. Definitely worth the trip

Huge cave system with electric mine carts that take you on a 15 mins ride into the cave followed by a walking audio tour. Amazing and beautiful. Stopped at a castle built into to the mountain for a photo op, but with no time to explore the castle. We had plenty of time that day at port so there is no reason why they did not give us time to tour the castle. Would have gotten five stars if they did, but it seems that Norwegian cuts corners and cheaps out whenever they can.

  • Hagar Qim Temple
Amazing temples, ruins and insights in to an advanced prehistoric race, which we know very little about, and nothing about what happened to or where they went.

We grabbed a taxi at the port for 100 euros for 4 hours. Our driver Carmelo was wonderful and helped us plan our short time there. We had bought tickets to the Hypergem, a prehistoric underground burial site/temple with prehistoric cave paintings. The hypergem had been closed to the public for may years as the co2 from people was deteriorating the paintings and walls. It was been reopened with advanced ventilation systems to preserve the site. You need to book months in advance as only ten people an hour can tour. The do hold back the ten spots for the 3 o'clock time spot for sales that day, but people we met on the island said the got in that day, but lined up at 7 am to get to 3 pm tour. Worth seeing in combination with the other temples. Amazing how advanced this prehistoric, stone age civilization was is building, art and knowledge.

  • Rome (Civitavecchia)
Lots of history and great things to see, but very crowded, with thousands of hustles trying to sell you hats, selfie sticks, run cons on people, all going on without intervention on part of authorities made Rome hard to enjoy.

  • City Tour
One tour for both Trogir and the Old City. Both were pretty awesome! We choose this as we wanted to also make it to the Archaeological Museum on our own, but unfortunately they were closed with no explanation, despite it being during hours they were supposed to be open. When we told our tour guide where we were going, she told us it was awesome, and also believed it was open, so call them first as they might be a little flakey.

  • Doge's Palace
Absolutely loved Venice! Saint Marks Cathedral and Doge's Palace were incredible, as was a Gondola ride for 2. Did not encounter the hassles of Rome. We used the Cruises lines shuttle, which was a mistake! It cost $15 per person per day, and only ran once every 30 mins, and only ran from the ship to Saint Marks. A 12 hour pass on the public water taxi costs about 15 euro and can take you many places, runs much more frequently, and as my Italian is at a beginners level, using English was not a problem on public transit or in any of the tourist areas. Also I had heard from others that the hop on hop off water tours stopped running after 6PM leaving people unaware and stranded, so public water taxis seem like to best bet - there are however several different companies that operate public water taxis and different lines within each company - not all passes are good for all companies or even all lines with in a company and you can be fined for not having the correct pass, so be careful and research before you go, or buy tickets from a manned booth were they can make sure you get the correct tickets (there are machine that are quicker and easy to use in many languages, but if you are not sure what you need it is worth waiting to talk to a person.)

  • Gondola Ride
The Gondola rides in Venice are typically expensive, but hey its Venice, and whats more Romantic than a private Gondola ride with the one you love in Venice! We took an half hour ride, which came with two small bottles of sparking Italian wine and glasses. It is not a tour in that the Gondoliers simply operated the boat and banter with the other Gondoliers, which is part of the charm. The ride left on time and lasted the full half hour, which is a benefit of booking through an agency. Without a tour the lines can be very long, and it can be hard to get a full half hour.

  • Murano Island
Took public water taxi. Bumbled into a glass factory, and ended up getting a private tour of the museum quality pieces for one the the owners. Their family owns 28 factories on the island. The work of art were incredible and quite beautiful. It was an accidental highlight of our vacation.
