  3. Liberty of the Seas
Our second time on the Liberty and we weren't disappointed. We did the Western Caribbean this time (Cozumel, Grand Cayman, Jamaica). Great room (8200) with a wonderful steward (Derrick) and top notch Dining room team (Erwin and Hemsley). They had our names and drink orders down after the first evening. My wife and our three kids (age 15,15,12) made the most of our time aboard, filling it with activities and entertainment. The first night we took advantage of the RCL First Night Done Right special (eat at a specialty restaurant for half price) and we went to Chops. Great service by the staff and top notch food as well. We also ate at Johnny Rockets one evening after an excursion and the waitstaff made it a fun experience. The rest of the meals were primarily in the main dining room for lunch and dinner with a mixture of the windjammer and room service for breakfast. The Windjammer is Ok as far as buffets go, a large variety of food that is seasoned but nothing exceptional . The waitstaff in the buffet is hit or miss. A few times they were very attentive , even bringing drinks , others times they cleaned and bused dishes without so much as a word. Sorrentos Pizza is a great choice for that late night snack or lunch and they rotate the salad choices throughout the day as well. The coffee shop on the Promenade also mixes up their offerings from Muesli soaked in milk and topped with fruit for breakfast to sandwiches and salads for lunch along with various pastry types throughout the day. My recommendation is to visit the main dining room as much as possible . The quality of service and food is a step above and you wont overeat as much because the portions are more appropriate ( you can always order more if your still hungry!). Each evening we would hit the 6:30pm show in the theater and then eat dinner afterwards at 8. When were done eating, there was usually a movie at the pool (10ish) or some other activity (games , adult comedy, etc). Overall the entertainment was top notch. We especially enjoyed Liberties new show "In the Air" which is similar to a Cirque show. The kids also took advantage of the ice skating on board (the show is worth seeing) , the flow rider , rock climbing wall and sports (volleyball and basketball). One thing that brings us back to cruising is the available activities for everyone . The kids had things to keep them occupied while we went to the gym (which incidentally is beautiful on deck 11 surrounded by windows) and there was so much for us to do as a family together. We find ships to be safe environments that allow teenagers a semblance of freedom, while being in a relatively contained space. As far as excursions, we booked all of them off ship. Using cruise critic, and other social media sites , you can find reputable operators , at a great price. In Cozumel we booked through Shore Excusioneer . We wanted to avoid the ferry to spend more time on the island (our third time here) and chose to do a jeep tour of the island. It was enjoyable with a tour of the light house eco park on the south point of the island, a beach break with lunch, and then a tour around the east side of the island back to the city central . The tour guides were funny and overall it was a good way to see the island. On Grand Cayman we booked an excursion to stingray city through Cayman Eco Adventures. Captain Chip was fantastic and we can't recommend this tour through him highly enough. It was truly magical and Captain Chip does it right. Unlike other tour operators , Captain Chip limits his excursions to 25 people, even though his boat can handle 45. His company philosophy is outstanding and he believes in respecting the rays and interacting in a friendly manner. Believe it or not, the rays recognize his boat and swamped us when we arrived. We noticed other operators boats were like cattle calls, with some boats bringing over 100 people. We had 30 rays swimming among us they had none. One of their guides came over and "stole" a ray from us to bring to their group. It was disheartening to see these magical creatures treated in such a brutish manner from these other tour operators. My family was so grateful we were with Cayman Eco Adventures and could imagine how little time these other people were having with the rays and what a different experience they had as well. In Jamaica we hired a driver through Native Tours. Our guide KJ met us at the port in an air condition mini van . He was wonderful and full of local knowledge. Great attitude and extremely helpful. By the time we arrived at our first destination, we all felt like we all had a better understanding of Jamaica , its economy and its people. Our itinerary was Blue Hole and Dunn River Falls and Native Tours handled the ticket purchase at both destinations for us as part of the package. Blue Hole was incredible. We were met by a local guide there and he took us through the property . It was breathtaking , minimally developed and looked straight off a movie set. Amazing! Dunn River Falls, not so much. Where Blue Hole was natural and minimally developed, Dunn River Falls was completely developed, with paved parking lots and ticket Kiosks straight out of Disneyland or Universal Studios. Blue Hole we had a guide for our family, Dunn River we were in a group of 40+ . Blue Hole we had time to take in the natural splendor and enjoy the experience , whereas Dunn River we were hustled from one spot or another then made to wait while the camera man took pictures of everyone to try and sell them the images afterwards. Night and Day experience and if we could do it over again we would have skipped the falls and spent all our time at Blue Hole. Afterwards we asked KJ to take us to a locals eatery and had some awesome jerk chicken, pork, curried goat, and local sides like festival . We were back to the port with 45 mins to spare. What a great day! Our last two days on the ship were at sea and unfortunately we had weather one of those day and were unable to use some of the outdoor facilities. We all agreed we liked having the two sea days at the end of the cruise instead of the beginning. It gives you an opportunity to ease back into regular routine and makes the transition back to the "real" world less jarring. Overall it was another wonderful RCL cruise and we look forward to cruising with them in the future .

Cabin Review

Ultra Spacious Ocean View
Cabin 1K 8200
Incredible room with tons of space! Located at the front of the ship overlooking the helipad, room 8200 is very roomy. You enter in a large central sitting room that has a couch, wardrobe, desk, arm chair and a couple of moveable pods one could rest their feet on. The room has an abundance of natural night provided by 3 large porthole windows . To left of the sitting room is the master bedroom which offers an oversize queen bed and its own desk with drawers and a good size closet with shelves. To the right of the sitting room is the second bedroom which has bunk beds and a additional wardrobe. The bathroom is a decent size with a medicine cabinets behind the right mirror and offers a shower "tube" , no tub. The couch in the seating area opens up into and full size bed as well , one which two of our kids (age 15 and 12) decided to share one night with no problem. The five of us never felt constrained our entire cruise and had a wonderful time in this spacious room . We also received excellent service from our room steward , Derrick. As a side note, you will feel a bit more of the ship movement in this room then something farther back but for us it was never a concern.
