  3. Norwegian Breakaway
Recently finished a 9 day cruise to the Baltic on the Norwegian Breakaway. In the past, we have selected smaller ships and made all of the arrangements, but this cruise was part of a Baltic Cruise package and part of a group trip. Our room was more spacious than I expected and storage was more than adequate for two people. But, what ship architect would place staterooms above the theater??? Each night the noise of the sound system below vibrated the floor and the shower door. The late show started at 9:30 and so the noise lasted late into the evening. Unfortunately, I was not in 'control' of this cruise and counted on the tour company, that had been selected by the group to make certain that we had excellent accommodations. The shore excursion were OK...guides in some ports were better than others...but that is to be expected. One tour lasted from 10am until 3pm, with no break for lunch or time on our own to purchase lunch. The food was mediocre and at times inedible. In one of the 'a la carte' restaurants we had the best Minestrone soup I have ever been served, followed by the worst Veal Marsala. Reservations are required for the theater. The theater is VERY small and would only accommodate 25% of the passengers at most. If you want to keep to a strict time table it is possible to schedule dinner and a show. But, that takes away from the general atmosphere of a cruise...relaxation. We attended one show, but it was the dinner theater. The ONLY place on the ship that offers a quiet place to relax at any time of the day is your stateroom. The public areas of the ship are a cacophony of noise and bright lights. There are lounge chairs scattered throughout the public areas but, they are either adjacent to the three story atrium or included in bar areas. During the day, the ships public address system constantly 'advertised' the next sale or auction. Typically, that system is used only by the bridge to update the passengers or by the cruise director to advise the passengers that the ship has been cleared by port authorities. The staff is very typical of any cruise line...always a smile and a desire to please. I would give them 5 stars...THEY DESERVE IT!!!

Never on Norwegian Again!!!
