Visiting at least three new destinations with a cruise line we used last year.
Fantastic views of Venice on departure and arrival.
Although lots of tours available, they were, as always, very pricey and all ports of call seemed easily accessible, so we made our own way.
Better designed than on larger Eclipse. Good location with easy access to sunset bar and deck 10. Quiet in the main although could hear film soundtracks from above on occasion. Ridiculous shower with lots of exotic jets and insufficient pressure to utilise them (advised shower was on fill power. ..)
Aircon good but only on minimum, too noisy on higher settings.
Cabin Steward, Lourdes, excellent. Don't forget to ask for tea / coffee tray
Took cable car -no problem despite wife's worry about heights etc
Town at top -Fira- very touristy but still quite charming. Walked through it to bus station. Local bus to Oia €2.50 return, 45 minutes. Oia must see, amazing architecture down cliff face and of course blue domed churches.
Left boat at 8.30am back for lunch before cable car got busy.
Cost €5 for the two of us vs €200 on tour..
Party isle, pretty windmills. Easily walkable. Worth one hour wander
Ignore taxis and tours and take x80 bus from pier. 45 mins to Acropolis. €2.50 return. Quite a climb up to Acropolis so start early and wear hat and sunblock, take water.
Pretty enough but little to do.
Unfair to comment as Venice was only used to start and finish the cruise with very little time to explore
Ignore tours and taxis and take private coaches (end of pier) to destination. Cost €10 return (45 ks distance) Entry further 12€ if senior use euro health card as proof -half price to here and Acropolis.
The coaches spend 2.5 hours which is about right at Olympia. Suggest site first then main museum(10/10) as it gets v hot. Secondary museum adjacent to coach stop a bit contrived (6/10).
Tour at more than €100 didn't have time to visit main museum as it was visiting a winery (Greek wine?)......
