We wanted to visit the Yucatán Peninsula to see and learn about the Maya civilization. Thanks to the shore excursions and the onboard lectures we did learn some. Of course we learned how much we still did not know--but this was not the fault of Viking! We could have preferred the port excursions to be a couple hours longer, but certainly there are itinerary reasons that govern that. And it's probably always a good sign that one wants more!
The cruise pampering was exquisite--always a treat. Crew members were consistently courteous and reaching out to help. Dining was delicious, and we loved the variety of offerings. The shows and performance were wonderful and professional quality; we enjoyed getting to greet the artists following the performances.
I had not mentioned to anyone or at any point that my birthday would occur during the trip. But what a lovely surprise to have a beautiful slice of birthday cake delivered to our cabin on the evening of December 15! It was already a special day, but Viking's thoughtfulness was the ICING on the CAKE, so to speak. :-)
Off and off during the week there was a foul smell in our cabin. Our stateroom attendant responded by enlisting different departments to troubleshoot. The smell came and went during the week, sometimes really unpleasant and other times bearable.
