Cabin: Outside Stateroom with French Balcony
For many years I have wanted to visit Europe, and especially Germany along the Rhine. "European River Cruise" TV ads piqued my interest, as a possible ideal way to do this. What could be better than seeing a lot of points of interest from the comfort of my own "traveling hotel"? So my wife and I decided to book a "last minute" 2018 Springtime trip on the Avalon Imagery II, departing Amsterdam and cruising to Basel.
We ended up having to arrive in Amsterdam on "King's Night", just prior to "King's Day", out of sheer luck, and due to limited last minute flight choices. An extra day in Amsterdam is a good thing.
The cruise was everything I had hoped it would be and more.
Cabin Review
Outside Stateroom with French Balcony
Cabin A
The cabin was very clean with adequate room and storage. We found the bed to be comfortable. There were adequate power outlets for charging devices. The bathroom was clean and modern, having a nice shower with good water pressure. Housekeeping was always careful to keep every little thing re-stocked as used.
The flat panel TV was very adequate, as was the channel selection. I liked keeping up on the US news here and there. We did have a small issue with the curtain blocking the IR remote signal. Once we knew the issue it was easy to work around.
There was a small safe to store valuables. It worked well.
My wife likes the temperature very cool while sleeping. Indeed the AC could turn the room into an icebox if desired.
The French Balcony was a nice touch. We'd often open the window while in the room and look out at the passing scenery, while changing clothes for the next event or excursion. There was a nice breeze off the river.
