Sailed with a group of 16 friends which included spouses and kids. The group had fun spending time together however, the service was not acceptable. With a few exceptions, the crew was rarely engaged, inattentive, uninterested, poorly trained and just not friendly. More like mindless robots rather than highly trained friendly helpful crew. This seemed rather unusual as I've always had a great experiences on other cruises: Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Celebrity. Their crew are typically cheerful and engaged and helpful with their patrons. I found this rather surprising as it wasn't just one or two problem crew members but the majority were like that. It was the strangest experience.
Food quality was fine. We usually went to the dining room or buffet. Selection at the buffet could have been better. The food quality there was solid at both places.
Public washrooms were filthy.
Housekeeping was terrible. Dusty cabinets, bed sheets and pillow cases did not appear clean, toilet had a persistent foul smell. Room was not never cleaned properly. Dirty/used towels were refolded and placed back for use again by the room attendant. This happened on multiple occasions. Debris on the carpet was not vacuumed. Room did not have the smell of cleaner at any time after room service. Comparatively, Royal Caribbean, Holland America and Celebrity's service was excellent. The competition's room attendants even take the time to get to know your name and see if you have any requests. Not on Emerald princess.
Beautiful City. Many great sightseeing and dining options.
