We chose the cruise initially because it visited countries that we hadn't visited before. In retrospect it's a truly wonderful itinerary. The biggest surprise was the beauty of Malta. I wish we would have planned our day there beforehand and had the chance to eat Maltese food and experience more of the city. I wish NCL would allot more time to this amazingly beautiful port.
Onboard we enjoyed the usual cruise activities, Bingo has become prohibitively expensive and it takes the fun out of it, the shows on this ship were average at best and the food is only a 3 out of 5. The dining plan was a life safer as Cagney's and Le Bistro are excellent but not included in the regular dining options.
Embarkation and disembarkation were a breeze from the standpoint of NCL, the train station at Civitavecchia was a drag. There were no working lifts and we had to carry two weeks of luggage up and down the steep steps at the platform. Once we arrived at the cruise port it was smooth and quick to board the Spirit.
We loved the cabin. It was far enough forward that there was very very little noise. The cabin forward to us was the Captain's cabin (or chief engineer, we weren't completely sure). The bathroom initially smelled slightly musty, but overall we had a great experience in 11500. Great ocean views as we were ahead of the ships wake. The TV's are funny on this ship. It's as though they didn't know what size the shelf was when they ordered them so they don't really fit. You have to hold your arm up in the air from bed to change the channel. I would immediately book this cabin again if I was on the same ship.
