Chose this cruise to see British Isles. Mostly wanted to see Guernsey and Kirkwall as we had already been to other ports. Unfortunately due to rough seas we could not tender in Guernsey. Kirkwall was fogged in so visibility was not very good. Was also windy and cold almost entire cruise. Probably should have paid more and taken this cruise in July or August. Royal Princess is a great ship but has poor layout. We had room E326 on deck 8 which is a balcony room with "Obstructed View" but really has "Very Obstructed View". I've had other balcony rooms with obstructed view but not like this. Lifeboats are not at all tucked into the ship and the top of the lifeboats are level with the balcony floor. From our balcony we could not see down at all and the lifeboat mechanism towers stood as high as our room ceiling, blocking our view so we could not see much when looking out. Normally we would pay extra for a balcony room in center of ship on higher deck such as 14 (Lido deck is 16), however I'm very glad we didn't. On each side of ship on Lido deck there is a sky walk which extends out about 15 feet. From sky walk you can see the ocean directly below and also see into rooms below. Last thing I would want is to be sitting on my balcony and have people staring down at me from above. Dinner in main dining room Concerto was very good. Menu included "Classic Items", however the steak was replaced with a beef burger. I always enjoyed the steak when none of the nightly main items appealed to me. Royal Princess does have great buffets, much better than other Princess ships we have sailed on. We always get balcony rooms and I prefer one where you can see everything going on below such as on Navigator of the Seas where from our balcony we could see pilot getting off the ship onto the pilot boat. Life boats stick out too far on Royal Princess.
Not a good room. Might as well save money and get an ocean view room as you would have a better view. Due to life boats and life boat mechanism towers there is really not much of a view.
