We chose this cruise to celebrate a significant birthday of a close friend, there was a party of 10. Overall we were very happy with this beautiful ship, and the excellent service we are used to on RCL. We had been on Ovation before, on her maiden voyage through the Panama Canal and loved it then. This time was perhaps not so good, for example the menu was the same in each of the 4 dining rooms, but we were told that the different menu concept was not popular. Also generally the food was not up to the usual standards. The ship left from and returned to Hong Kong, embarkation was efficient, but disembarkation was a mess. We later discovered there was traffic chaos in the city which could account for the long lines waiting for taxis. The ports in Japan were not the best (they did not really seem geared up for cruise ships) but we enjoyed Nagasaki which is very easy to get around on your own, and also Shimonoseki, where we took a very good ship's tour. Tha Japanese people we had interactions with were all friendly and helpful. Our family suite was fantastic, so roomy and comfortable, and our room attendant did a wonderful job. The production shows were of an excellent standard, especially Pixels in the fantastic Two70 venue. To sum up we would happily go on this ship again (we love the big ships, they have so much to offer) but probably not in the Asian region when the cruise lines are catering to a different demographic.

Enjoyable cruise to Japan
