My family choose this cruise for the itinerary. We wanted to visit the Dutch Caribbean & this cruise did not disappoint. We had a balcony cabin & an interior cabin. Our cabin steward, Ram, kept our room spotless & was always pleasant and accommodating. The Freedom of the Seas is not one of RC biggest or newest ships, but it is well maintained & clean. The ports were excellent - we would have liked to spend a few more hours in Willemstad, but we managed to see everything we wanted to. Our Dining Room servers, Kunal & Michael were awesome. They greeted us each evening with a smile & went out of their way to make sure our dining experience was excellent. The food at dinner each night was very good. Kunal even made sure my daughter had something she liked to eat even if it wasn't on the menu. Fastou, at the Solarium Bar took care of our drinks for most of the trip & came up with some great concoctions. I would definitely recommend the drink package - it was great not getting a huge bar bill at the end of our trip. The Windjammer is the ships buffet restaurant. While it had a wide variety of tasty food, the space is a circular design, so navigating the lines was like being on a bumper car ride. Peak breakfast & lunch times were especially difficult. Finding a pool chair after 10am was impossible! Our choices were to get up early to get a pool chair or wait until after 3pm to spend some time in the pool. We ended up spending the day on our balcony on our sailing days because it was so crowded. Overall, it was a good experience. Our family had a great time & we will be sailing on RC again.

Port Reviews

San Juan

We spent the day before our cruise in San Juan and walked around Old San Juan on our own. The town is still recovering from the Hurricane Maria, but the people were very friendly & accommodating. Food is expensive, but we expected that.

St. Thomas

We did a family scuba dive at Coki beach. We booked it directly with the company before we left. We had a great time.

Curacao

We took a taxi to Cas Abao Beach & it was absolutely stunning! Looks like a postcard; calm, clear blue water & white sand. Friendly local charged use $12 dollars for 4 beach chairs & an umbrella. We went on a one tank dive; lots of coral & fish to see. There was a snack bar that served food & drinks. We then spent some time in downtown Willemstad, lovely architecture & has a european feel. My family wished we had more time in this port.

Aruba

Went to Palm beach for the day - clear blue water, white sand. There are lots of places to rent chairs & places to get food.

St. Maarten

Our plan was to get off the boat & do little shopping & go back. The locals were very friendly and we spent most the day on the island. There is a beach directly off the boat - very convenient, as we weren't planning on a beach day, but ended up there anyway.
