This cruise was my fiancE's first and my second. However my first cruise was with NCL about 5 years ago, when I was in college on vacation with my family. So I am unable to compare these two cruises, nor do I think you can.

Cruisecritic.com was extremely helpful when planning our vacation so it is only fair that we give back. To give some perspective and background info, my fiancE is 30 and I am 27. We live in Manhattan. I used to be a Hotel Management/Meeting Planner (I recently became a high school teacher) and my fiancE is an accountant. This was a much needed vacation to get away from the real world, to relax and to have some fun. Overall, Explorer of the Seas is a great ship and we have very few complaints. I would highly recommend this cruise ship and we plan on cruising with RCCL again in the future.

Embarkation: Embarkation was very easy. We flew from NYC to Miami the morning of our cruise. We arrived at Miami Airport a little after noon and took a cab to the seaport. Cab fare from the airport to the seaport was a flat fee of $21.00 and took about 15 minutes. We were at the seaport before 1pm. Embarkation was very organized and did not take very long. Our luggage was taken by a porter right away and we boarded with one carry-on bag (we brought bathing suits, clothes and shower stuff to get ready for dinner the first night in case our luggage was not delivered to our stateroom before dinner). Check-in lines were separated by the deck your stateroom is on and our line moved fairly quickly. We would have been on the boat even sooner if the family in front of us did not take so long and also if the woman placing people on line was a bit more organized and aware. However with the amount of people checking-in it took no time at all. However, make sure to have all your forms completed (including the Bahamas immigration card). We were on the boat by 1:30pm. There were some lines for the elevator so we walked up the stairs to see if our stateroom was ready and drop off our carry-on. Our room was ready so we changed and headed to the Windjammer Cafe for lunch. (Our friends, whom we met on the cruise, had boarded before noon. Although their stateroom was not completely ready, they were able to drop their carry on off and change.) We received all of our luggage by the time we came back from lunch no later than 3:30pm. We spent the afternoon, swimming and touring the ship.
