My Wife and I decided to take our 4(2 Boys)(2 Girls) college age children ages 18-22 , on a winter break cruise on the Carnival Pride departing 1/3-1/10 to the Bahamas. We have cruised several times before but this was our first Carnival cruise. We find the Baltimore port convenient and close to home, and have departed from there several times on RCCL. Our departure/embarkation on 1/3/10 was a very slow process. We were told during check in that the cargo doors on the ship had frozen closed and it took workers several hours to get the doors open and luggage removed from the previous cruise. We had arrived at the port at 2pm but were not able to board until 4pm, so we stood in line for almost 2hrs, with no real information as to why. The east coast was dealing with a Arctic blast so this was no fault of the port workers or the cruise line. We found the ship to be generally very clean and the art decor was of no concern for any of our family. Our 3 cabins were ready when we boarded, and we found them spacious and clean. We had early seating dining and the food in the main dining room was average at best, but we enjoyed our family meals each night. On one eve the mozzarella sticks that some of us had ordered were delivered to our table still frozen solid on the inside. The wait staff was more then helpful and we also enjoyed their attentive service each evening. Overall the entertainment on the ship was weak, but as 6 adults we were more than capable of finding plenty to do most of the time. I will say that our boys were very disappointed that the basketball court was only open 1 day during the entire cruise, but the ship still listed several activities there daily which of course never happened? We felt going into the voyage that the itinerary was weak, but we more than enjoyed our time away. As non smokers it would nice to see more common areas that were smoke free esp since a few days were spent inside due to the cold. The disembarkation process was quick and easy as a Jan thaw had hit, so no frozen cargo doors on return!
