To celebrate a number of different things (University and High School graduations, and our 25th wedding anniversary) our family of four went on a vacation to the UK, that started with a Trans Atlantic crossing. This crossing was one of the highlights of our trip.
We started our trip in Toronto, and took the train to New York City. I would not recommend the this train, for several reasons. Going though customs was a hassle, at the border we had to get off the train with all of our luggage and that took over an hour. The food on the train was pretty bad. The best scenery was going along the Hudson, but it was getting dark by this time. Taking the train in the reverse direction would have been much better. On a positive note, it was nice to arrive in Times Square and be able to walk to our hotel.
It would have been more convenient if the cruise terminal was in Manhattan instead of Brooklyn, but c'est la vie. The Hotel arranged a car service for us, and while it was a little bit expensive ($70), it made getting to the terminal pleasant and stress free. We would do that again.
The cabin was quiet, dark and well maintained. It exceeded our expectations.
The cruise terminal is a little bit out of the way, so we would recommend getting their by car service or taxi. We considered taking the subway and then walking to the terminal, but I'm glad that we didn't do that.
The terminal itself is just fine. Then embarkation process was smooth an efficient, and everyone that we met was friendly.
Having cleared customs and immigration on the ship, it was so nice to just walk off the ship and be in Southampton. It was easy and stress free,
