Burma, Rangoon or Mandalay had always sounded mysterious and exotic to us and had been on our bucket list for a long time. This was the chance. We could just add this 12 day cruise to our Hong Kong to Singapore 10 day cruise without leaving the Silver Shadow and stay in the same stateroom. The highlight of this cruise of course was the Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon, Myanmar. We loved the itinerary, Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Phuket. For 3 nights the ship stayed in port at Yangon. This turned out to be an awesome, most impressive and unforgettable experience. On the return trip to Singapore there were too many days at sea. We passed so many wonderful and little known islands and places on the peninsula worth a visit. Fantastic and impressive as Yangon had turned out to be, we feel that one overnight layover would have been sufficient for our visit. We would have preferred an overnight stay in beautiful Phuket or Langkawi, our last landfall before returning to Singapore. We did love this cruise but think it has great potential for improvement.
We were very happy with our cabin. The luxury of two sinks in the bathroom we really appreciated. The interior looked a little worn and tired; it could use a renovation. But the outstanding butler service, as well as the service throughout the ship and the food made up for it. As we had just stayed on the ship from the previous cruise, Hong Kong to Singapore, my comments on the Silver Shadow remain the same for this cruise. The same impressive and impeccable service in combination with the small number of passengers on a small vessels is for us the most attractive combination. We wouldn't think of booking a voyage on a modern large vessel even if it was for free.
