Alaska- The scenery was just amazing. Be prepared for rain and dress in layers. Embarkation – Our flight arrived in Seattle at 12:45 and we purchased the Princess shuttle to the port. We only had to wait a few minutes to board the shuttle bus and once at the port, it only took us 15 minutes to check in and get on the ship. Once on board, our room was ready. Everything went very smoothly. Ship – For the age of the ship it is well kept. Pools were closed the majority of the time because of the weather and only half of the hot tubs were open which were always full! Pizza and ice cream bar was outside which was cold. Dining – The food in the main dining area was good. We had anytime dining and only had to wait one night for about 5 minutes. The waiters were very nice and we received our food in a timely manner. The buffet food was OK. Not as much of a variety as on other cruise lines. Seating area for the buffet was really crowded during peak hours and it was hard to find a spot especially since it was cold outside and you didn't want to eat on the deck unless you wanted to freeze. There was no lemonade for free which disappointed my daughter. Only water coffee and tea. Pizza and ice cream cones were good. Went to the Salty Dog (extra charge) which was good. Wanted to try the Crab Shack but only had it available on certain nights which didn’t work for us. Entertainment- The productions shows were disappointing. There was no story line and the singing was just average (except for a few). They had Lou Gazzara (American Idol finalist) one night but we did not go. We did really enjoy the comedian, Steve Moris who performed in the theater and also in the Explorers lounge. We did go to both performances. He jokes around a lot and even my nineteen year old thought his jokes were funny. Also went to The Voice of the Ocean and they had some good singers! Spa – I really don’t like going to the spa on ships since they always seems to pressure you into buying their products but my husband wanted us to go so we did. They bothered us which was no surprise. If you do go, be prepared to keep saying “no”!!!!!!! Debarkation – We used the Port Valet service (no charge) which checked your luggage in at the airport. It worked perfectly. We just had to have our bags outside our door the night before and didn’t have to worry about them until we got back home. We were then able to explore Seattle for the day since our flight wasn’t until 3:15! We just carried a backpack with the stuff we needed for the morning. Would recommend!

Cabin Review

Mini-Suite with Balcony
Cabin ME D212
The mini suite was very nice. It was big enough for my husband and 19 year old daughter. The pull out coach bed was not as comfy as the main bed but it was sufficient for my daughter. The closet area was large with room to dress and had a full length mirror on the closet door. The bathroom had a bath tub and also very roomy! Just a note that the balcony is not covered and the passengers above you can look onto your balcony. It was not a big deal for us. We liked having the larger cabin room!

  • Glacier Bay
Glacier Bay is gorgeous. They ship gets very close to the glaciers and it stops to let you look at them for some time. They do get to the glaciers early in the morning so make sure you are up and about. There are talks about the glacier on the ship along with guides to answer your questions.

My husband did the Mendenhall Glacier Guides Choice Tour Hike. He was not impressed. You still are not anywhere close to the glacier and a few of the participants slowed down the rest of the group.

  • Mendenhall Glacier
Did the Mendenhall Glacier & Whale Quest Excursion. Went to the Mendenhall Glacier visitors center after our whale watching tour. You had about an hour to take a hike or hang out at the visitors center. Since it was cold and rainy, we opted out on the hike and looked around. The visitor center was REALLY busy and you could only see the glacier from a distance.

  • Whale Watching
Did the Mendenhall Glacier & Whale Quest Excursion. This portion of the excursion was awesome. We saw multiple humpback whales and other wildlife. One whale came right up to the boat. The boat has a lower and upper climate controlled area to sit in along with an area outside (upstairs). They served hot chocolate and coffee for free and had other drinks and food for purchase.

  • Fishing
I did the Hunting for Halibut Excursion. Because the ship was only in port for about 4 hours, it did not give you enough time to really fish. Would of loved to have been out there longer!!!

  • Flightseeing
We did the Exclusive Flightseeing & Crab Feast excursion. Since we were there only for the morning and the tour stared at 8:00am, we were taken to the crab feast first. It was kind of strange eating crab legs at 9:00am. It was good though. We then went on the floatplane for about 15-20 minutes. For the price of this excursion, we were disappointed. If we could do it again, we would of booked something else.

Walked over from the Pike Place Market. Saw sea otters, sea lions and an octopus along with many species of fish. They had an area that you could touch all sorts of sea creatures. It was really fun!

Visited Pike Place Market on a Saturday morning after getting off the ship. It was really crowded and I was not very impressed. Too many people and not very clean.

  • Rafting
We did the Ocean Raft Adventure excursion. It was really fun. They suited us up in very warm jumpsuits and provided us gloves and hats. We went around Lynn Canal and saw many eagles and waterfalls. The straddle your seats like riding a horse and the captain will bring you right up to waterfalls and take you on fast rides around the canal.

  • Victoria
Victoria is beautiful but wish we could of seen it during the day. We ported at 7:00pm in the evening so we just took a walk to downtown. It took a good 35-40 minutes to walk there from the port.
