Our first Viking cruise - starting in Amsterdam, traveling down the Dutch canals and then onto the Rhine River ending in Basel Switzerland. We chose Veranda B suite on 3rd level and found views superior to lower levels. We are foodies and found meals and included wine and beer to be outstanding and varied over our 7 day cruise. Service excellent. Most of the tours were well organized and insightful. We especially liked the Marksburg Castel. Also recommend the Bruhl Palace as an added option. We chose to spend 2 days in in Amsterdam that included a trip to Kuekenhof tulip gardens and dinners at two excellent seafood restaurants. We also stayed a day and a half in Basel. Our hotel offered free tram and bus passes and 1/2 off museum tickets around the city. Suggest seeing the Kunst museum, cathedral overlooking Rhine River, and the Rathaus, among others. Basel was very easy to get around for newbies and offers a great original medieval city dating to preRoman times. Hotels are very reasonable in Basel but food is expensive. Seemed to be similar prices whether modest cafe or well known restaurant. We are looking forward to trying another cruise in the future.
Well organized, plenty of storage space. Comfy large bed. Nice touches in bathroom including heated floor. Wonderful view out of large double sliding doors. Very quiet. We enjoyed sitting on our veranda sipping on a G&T in the late afternoon watching the shores go by.
We took a self guided tour in late afternnon and found a wonderful local tavern off the usual path with excellent white asparagus soup and different versions of pork schnitzel - sauteed not deep fried.
Worth spending some extra time in Basel - lots to see and do.
