We had originally planned on doing a bicycle / snorkel excursion while in port, but decided to just go at it alone. 
Since the day was a bit gloomy and we were tendering in and out, we just walked around a bit and had a bite to eat just south of port. We did some shopping for a few trinkets and then rode the city bus north to Cemetery Beach. Cost of the bus was only $5 (US) for both of us. Based on comments made in the forums, it sounded like this beach would be fairly quiet, but this was not the case. There were at least 100 people there as local tour operators were pushing snorkel trips there. 
We strolled up and down the beach and took some pictures and then caught a bus back to town. Tender back to the ship was a breeze. 
Overall a pretty nice town. Clean overall, but didn't quite have the "island" feeling we expected, whatever that was. It seemed very safe and I would have no problem letting my 19 year old daughter roam alone. Definitely expensive. 


Grand Cayman (Georgetown)

For Cozumel we had booked a Discover Scuba trip through NCL. This would be our second discover class as we had done one in a pool at a local dive shop. The morning started very rainy and the temperatures were 65 or so. Not a great day for the beach, but since we would be under water we didn't care. 
The instructor from Sand Dollar sports met us at the pier and gathered the 8 of us who had signed up. He walked us over to the taxi are and grabbed a van for us. Their location was about 5 minutes away just south of town. We had a great time learning to apply the skills we learned at home in the pool in the ocean. Lots of pretty colorful fish. These guys did a great job with everything. 
We have now decided that this is a sport for us and have signed up for full certification next month. If anyone has ever wanted to give scuba a try, the discover scuba is a great way to try it out with little cost and low risk $$$ wise. They show you just enough to be safe and get you hooked. 
By this time the sun has peaked out and the afternoon warms up. 
After diving, we took a taxi (arranged by scuba folks) back to town. This was awesome as the driver didn't really speak any English and was doing his best to take us the wrong direction to another cruise ship. This gave me a chance to dust off my rusty Spanish and get us to where we needed to be. 
My wife was looking for a ring, so we looked around in some of the small shops just off the pier. She found something she liked and asked a price. The guy said $38. I looked in my pocket and only had $22. He said ok, $26 to which I replied, no really I only have $22 and that I could go back to the ship and get more. My wife who really wants the ring checks her back pack and magically pulls out 2 $20 bills to which the guys replies - oh the price is now $34. LOL! We give him a hard time that he originally said $26, but pay him $28 for being a couple of dopes and bad at bargaining. 
Wanting to stay away from restaurants with barkers out front and people wearing balloon animals on their heads, we head to Casa Denis as recommended by several people on the forums. On the way by one restaurant, one of the barkers is pleading for us to come see his menu if we "want to try Mexican food". He tells us they have burritos, tacos, paninis, shrimp... Wait a minute. "Panini? Did you say you have Panini?", "Yes it is a sandwich". "I laugh and say, sorry but a torta is a Mexican sandwich. No Gracias - we will eat somewhere else." 
We continue to our original destination and select a table in back back courtyard. Nice and quiet. We have 2 Tecate each, my wife a bowl of soup and I have my torta. With chips and some guacamole, the total comes to 224 pesos - very inexpensive lunch!!!! 
We stroll a bit, people watch and make fun of the drunk people with balloons on their heads before heading back to the boat. 
Nice town and it met our expectations and provided some good laughs along the way. The water was a bit cloudy where we dove (just off the beach), but we would really like to go back and dive in some other locations. 


Cozumel

Our room (10036) was just off the elevator. I was worried that it would be noisy, but we rarely heard people coming and going. Overall it was convenient and made it easy to find our room.

Having stayed in a balcony (and having glanced into an inside room), we won't choose less in the future.
