We sailed on the Norwegian Breakaway from May 11-20, 2018. It was phenomenal and we really enjoyed it. We will definitely do it again.

The Cruise Director Dan Dan was always funny, happy, and bubbly. He seemed to be everywhere all the time – from the morning TV show to the Atrium to random shows and events throughout the ship.

Shirley from the Cruise Director’s staff was also amazing. She was also constantly bubbly and appeared everywhere. She ran and participated in some hilarious gameshows and activities. She remembered our names and would talk to us when she saw us.

Howard was a great steward. We were also able to talk to him and he would recognize us in the hallways. Our room was always clean.

The ship was incredible. It was huge and had plenty to do on board. The food was always delicious. The café always had a theme night of different dishes to try. The complimentary restaurants were also uniquely decorated and had different themes and menu items every night. We only had to wait a few times (for about 30 minutes) for a table during dinner service. Although portion sizes were sometimes small, it wasn’t like you couldn’t just order more if you wanted!

The ropes course, water slides, pools, hot tubs, gym, running track, and sports courts kept us busy outside when the weather was nice. Inside, we saw Broadway shows, magic shows, comedy shows, live music, and much more. We never got around to trying everything they had to do on board!

(We did not do any cruise-organized excursions because we found them to be incredibly overpriced and expensive. At every port we were able to find free walking tours, local snacks, and took public transit.)

Our one complaint/issue was with Stockholm. We booked this cruise because we wanted to go to Stockholm. In March, we were told they changed it to Nynashamn (about an hour south of Stockholm) due to a “berthing issue” (the ship was too big to fit in Stockholm’s port – why didn’t they know that before they promoted stopping in Stockholm?) but they would offer complimentary transfers because of this change. In May before sailing I called to confirm this and they said transfer details would be booked on board. Once on board, we asked a staff member at guest services and she had no idea about the free transfers. We told her we had the email promising free transfers and she said “no.” The next day, we brought the email to another staff member, who said the free transfer was cancelled because they extended our port stay in Nynashamn (from 5pm to 7pm). She offered to sell us transfers for USD$50 per person. Frustrated, we made our own arrangements to travel by public transit from Nynashamn to Stockholm for about $16 per person. Then, the day before Stockholm, we received a phone call saying our complimentary transfers were ready for pick-up at guest services – that we were receiving those free transfers after all. In the end, we’re happy NCL did the right thing, but wish it wouldn’t have taken so much time or effort out of our vacation.

We’re definitely happy overall and will certainly be cruising again!
