Firstly the itinerary was the selling feature of this trip being very Japan orientented and then Alaska finishing in Vancouver. But also being on the Golden Princess which to date was our preferred cruise line because of their service, food and general value for money.
But unfortunately we believe that Princess and quickly losing their focus and fast becoming a 3.5 product.
This is re-inforced by the number of operational problems such as leaking sewage, blocked sewage, leaks and overall run down look of a ship apparently just out of 14 days in Dry Dock in Singapore. What did they do????
Firstly on boarding in Yokohama we found out that they were already out of many products such as small bottles of Champagne, Korbel i Believe, some Shiraz as advertised, Cider, plus we also believe they were running the food stocks down as the food on the trip through to Alaska was bland and very uninteresting. Definately not up to what we have experienced previously.
NO Japanese food was offered on the whole Japan section of the cruise.
We had 6 days at sea crossing the North Pacific but with the exception of about 2-4 interesting lectures the activities were the same each day and involved a constant, Trivia, Horse Racing, Happy Feet, How to look 10 years younger, Flatter Stomach and they were the good ones. Total lack of imagination and a non caring attitude.
Through Alaska, the food quality did pick up but still not a lot of Alaskan based foods unless you wanted to pay $29 for a plate of King Crab Legs,
Sabatinis was constantly criticized to all the attended with their new Menu to the point where we cancelled our booking. Once again a changed menu reflecting cost savings.
It is very disappoint to see Princess going this way as it has been a favorite of many people but 90% of the people we spoke top on board echoed the above sentiment and said that they were unlikely to cruise Princess again.
The worst part about this is that they, as I do, believe that Princess does NOT care.
