Sail Date: May 2018

After our 2017 cruise on the Queen of the Mississippi, we wanted to experience another cruise on ACL. We piggybacked this cruise with a few days in the Willamette Valley, so the shorter cruise time was not an issue. The food was great, although the portion sizes did seem a little smaller than our prior cruise. Note that this ship is not one that ACL had built; so the orientation is a bit different than their other ships. You have to step up to get into the bathroom (which was not an issue for us but could be for someone using a walker). There were plenty of shore excursions to choose from (complimentary as well as reasonably priced options), as well as wandering on your own in Hood River. On-board lectures as well about Lewis and Clark, since we were in Lewis and Clark territory. You should pay up for the larger staterooms if you can. It was also a nice touch that the wines were all either Washington state or Oregon wines. These cruises attract an older crowd (not for children).

Cabin Review

Cabin Owners Suite

This was a spacious cabin with a private balcony plus a more public balcony (yes, 2 balconies with this suite). Note however, that to get to the cabin you have to walk outside as this is on the top deck. It's quiet from the perspective of people milling about or walking by, but a bit noisy when you think of the location by the pilot house. Interior had a couch, a table and chairs, and plenty of space for clothing. Very bright with windows. A cheerful room.

Port Reviews

Portland (Oregon)

If you have the option for the WAAM (auto and airplane museum) in Hood River, take it. We could have spent considerably more time there. It was fascinating and had a lot of great exhibits.
