My husband and I booked this cruise--our 4th with Royal Caribbean and our 11th overall--about 6 months ago. We got a great deal and were able to talk my parents into coming along. Being able to depart out of Galveston is so convenient.
We left Austin at around 8:15 am and were at the port in Galveston by 11:30 am or so. The lines of vehicles pouring into the port were long, but once we arrived in front, we quickly off-loaded our bags to porters and sent the men back to Lot B to park the car. Once inside, we were able to use the VIP check-in line and were on board the ship by 12:30 pm.
The Voyager is just over 10 years old, and is starting to show her age in some places, i.e. chipped paint on the outside railings, a few spots of worn carpeting, a few deck chairs in need of repair, those types of things. The ship was sparkling clean, however, and some of the artwork is just beautiful.
Not a lot of storage space in the closet or bathroom. We made creative use of space on the shelf below the sink in the bathroom to avoid a cluttered counter top, and if you line up four glasses (two are already in the bathroom, and there's another two with your ice bucket) in the glass holders in the bathroom you can store your toothbrushes, toothpaste and little things like hairbrushes, chapstick, etc.. up off the counter.
Do yourself a favor and bring an over-the-door shoe organizer, as there isn't a lot of floor space in your closet for your shoes. We did, however, have about 25 coat hangers in the closet, so hang as much as you can of your wardrobe and save the minimal shelf space. The cabin hairdryer is just awful--you have to hold the button down with your thumb to make it work! Not only that, but if you put it down for more than a minute, it shuts itself off because it overheats. There are only two outlets in the whole room, so if you have lots of gadgets to charge, bring a power strip.
