Sail Date: Mar 2018

I had never been to any of the places on the 13-day Mediterranean Odyssey itinerary before (although my wife had during her TWA days) so it was a good way to check that off the bucket list. This cruise was followed a few days later with a Viking River cruise, the 15-day Grand European Tour, because if you're going to make the effort to travel a significant distance, and you can find multiple tours that you like in such close proximity to one another, it only makes sense to do so.

This was the second time on the Viking Star for us, having done the Viking Homelands cruise about 2 years ago and we were happy to find that all the major categories for rating were still as good as they had been the first time.

The crew was as friendly and efficient as always, and there was even one young lady in food services who we had met previously and she was still aboard, but was now a supervisor...a VERY well-deserved promotion.

Naples

Had always wanted to visit Pompeii...and we had an excellent guide. My Dad flew

B-25's during WW2 from North Africa, Sicily, and Italy and was in the air the day when Vesuvius blew. He said that when they saw it go up, they immediately turned east and left as fast as they could!
