As fans of NCL, my husband and I chose this cruise on the Escape as it was going out of NYC and we could get to the port without flying. We were looking for a week disconnected from reality, just the two of us spending some time relaxing. Getting on and off the ship was a breeze. Crowded, yes, but the lines flowed. The ship is immense, with that, there were a lot of passengers! The pool deck was full of sun bathers and liveliness, but there were sundecks where you could go for a little more quiet. Other than that, we really didn't notice the number of people onboard. Our cabin met all of our requirements: affordable, clean and conveniently located. We didn't partake in the zillion activities offered, just relaxed in our lounge chair and enjoyed the sunshine, fresh air and drinks then afterward dined in one of the numerous specialty restaurants. After dinner we would put a little cash into a slot machine for fun. The food was good in all, but Food Republic stood out as the star. All of this, though, would not have been possible without the FANTASTIC staff. All levels, all roles, every person we interacted with was warm, pleasant and welcoming. Everyone had a smile for us. The officers were seen all around the ship, stopping to talk with passengers. They were always accessible if you had a need for anything. Now to the destination: Bermuda was breathtaking! Pictures can't do justice to the color of the water and the sand of the beaches. The locals were friendly, it was clean, easy to get around via public transportation and there was so much to see and do. One trip to this island isn't enough! We will be cruising NCL again and hope to get back to Bermuda, too.

Cabin Review

Inside Stateroom

Cabin IF

Cabin 14449 is a Family category and slept four and there were two extra pull down beds. I had seen some photos and it appears that pull down beds can be stored in the ceiling. I wasn't sure how this room would be configured. Both pull down beds were on the wall and this took up some space so getting in and out of the bed was a little acrobatic. I also saw photos of the closet and knew there were shelves. Most of the shelves are only about 6 inches deep, so the thought of throwing a full packing cube onto the shelf didn't work out. These are only observations as the cabin suited our needs. It was clean and comfortable. All of our belongings easily were stored away in the several nooks and there were plenty of hangers in the roomy closet. The bathroom was a standard bathroom for the ship with plenty of shelving space and under sink storage.

Port Reviews

King's Wharf

The island of Bermuda is beautiful. The water, sand and landscape are breathtaking. There is so much do to see and do on the island so it's good that the ship is docked for multiple days. It's easy to get around via public transpiration, too. We really didn't find a need to do a ship sponsored excursion. We took a group taxi to Horseshoe Bay and sat on the beach and swam for several hours before hopping on a bus into Hamilton. We walked around the city then found a nice pub for lunch and a beer. The ferry back to the dock was easy to find and we were back to the ship in the evening. Another day we took the NCL sponsored ferry to St. George's. The ferry ride is long and St. George's is small. You can see most of it in a short time. So, if you're not heading to a beach like Tobacco Bay to spend some time, consider the ferry ride as part of the adventure. The short day in port we perused the stores in the Dockyard. There were a lot of touristy type stores and a few cool local artsy stores. A few bars/restaurants, too. We can't wait to go back and see more of the island.
