My family and I went on a Western Caribbean cruise on Norwegian Getaway in the beginning of April and it was one of the best cruises we have ever done!
Smooth embarkation and disembarkation, lovely cabin, kind and helpful staff, good dining options, lovely activities on board, interesting ports and shore excursions!
We took a seven day Western Caribbean cruise on Norwegian Getaway in April, with stops in Roátan (Honduras), Harvest Caye (Belize), Costa Maya (Mexico) and Cozumel
See my review above for a cabin review.
They day at Harvest Caye was the most relaxing day and I spent whole the day by the poolside, reading books, drinking coconuts, swimming in the pools and in the ocean. It was 29+ degrees in the ocean and almost as warm in the pools. The pools are lovely, there is small islands with palm trees in the middle and a small waterfall is flowing relaxingly. There is also a bar (Landshark) from where you can drink drinks on small chairs in the pool.
The pools are just lovely and suitable for everyone, since they are both deeper and shallower parts. Early in the morning (about half past eight) there is not a lot of people in the pools but later at eleven o'clock they are thick with people.
The same on the beach, at half past eight it is almost empty, but later on it gets almost filled, but not really crowded. There are almost always sun-chairs available on the beach, but at eleven o'clock almost all the sun-chairs by the pools are filled.
However the sand at the beach is really hard and uncomfortable for your feet’s, so you should absolutely wear appropriate footwear.
There are no waterslides in the pools, but some hundred meters away there is a playground with water, for example: tipping buckets, slides and other water-fun things for children.
At Harvest Caye there are a lot of exotic flowers and plants that you do not are able to see anywhere, the flowers are big and there are exotic palm trees and other fascinating plants. There are also several stores and shops selling towels, t-shirts, magnets and other souvenirs. At Harvest Caye you can also go in a zip line and hire pedal boats, however the zip line is really expensive and costs about 80 USD.
Please note that no beverage package that you have on the boat are available in Harvest Caye and the food is not included.
There also several shore excursions to attend in Harvest Caye, for example you can see Mayan ruins and spice farms on the mainland. But I do not recommend those, just take a relaxing day at the poolside or at the beach and just relax and think of how lovely cruising is! Harvest Caye is great for everyone, elderly people, adults and children!
Miami Beach is rather nice, with good swimming possibilites at South Beach. Ohtherwise Miami is not so nice and exciting. Just go to the port and get on the ship as soon as possible. In Miami there are not much to see and it is hard to be a pedestrian, you really need to have a car or take taxis everywhere, there very few zebracrossings.
But it is nice to have been in Miami, but it is not a very exciting place.
