We are an Australian couple in our early 40's, this was the first leg of a b2b month long cruise. We have completed 12 cruises now, this was our 3rd on ncl and 2nd time on the Star. We have also sailed Celebrity and HAL multiple times. Overall an enjoyable cruise due to the Canal, great weather, good service and making new friends.
Embarkation was a little slow at LA but not too bad, it just seems strange that ncl assigns times but then everyone checks in at whatever time they choose.
The Star as a ship is the typical size we sail on around 2,500 people. She was heading to dry dock shortly after this cruise. She was in reasonable condition, she reminds me of a Vegas casino in design with gaudy styling but we quite liked it.
Small cabin, average storage, great bathroom and shower, terrible condition of initial bed, some noise insulation problems
Flew in day before and stayed at Long Beach, some good outlet shopping and nice views of the beach
First time here, originally planned a snorkelling trip but weather was a bit cool and still jet lagged so just explored town and spent some time on main beach which was very nice.
Given US government pulled out all employees and banned travel to this city not sure why a cruise ship would stop here.
Worst tendering I have ever seen. Despite having ticket 7 of 12 (and arrived 20 minutes before due to be distributed) took almost 3 hours to get off the ship. No time to go outside this small and grotty town with a dirty beach. Shore excursions were well over an hour late getting back to the ship.
