Enjoyed the Alaskan experience with Princess. Although I believe we were too early in the season to see the variety of wildlife we were hoping to see. We did see however a few eagles and whales. But, sadly no bears, or for that mater enough eagles and whales. Just much too early in the season. The scenery was beautiful and the locals were very friendly. The food on the cruise was just ok for this trip. We have sailed many times on Princess and both of us thought the food was not up to snuff. They changed the menu and removed such outstanding items such as the parmesan crust which was served with the fettuccini alfredo. They did not serve butter with the rolls, you received some kind of terrible tasting creamed butter. You had to ask for regular butter. Also they limited the rolls that you were initially given. You could ask for more which always took additional time to receive. The pizza was just not cooked enough and when questioned about it, the server made no effort to correct it.
The best excursion was the one we did in Skagway. We did the best of Skagway which included a train ride, a bus tour, a tour of the Red Onion Saloon and trip to "LiarsVille" a spot right out of the movie "Deliverance". This tour overall was excellent. Best location for shopping was Ketchikan, Alaska, plenty of shops to see and review. Juneau was just ok, we went on an excursion which visited the glacier and did a tour of a boat to see whales, which as I mentioned was just a few. The entertainment was also not up to Princess standards. The dancers and singers were excellent, but the comedian just was not funny at all. Overall the crew was excellent (except for the Pizza Server) and provided good customer service. But, again, would rate this cruise just average as opposed to the man times of excellence we had in the past with Princess Cruises.
The stateroom itself was of good size and the bathroom and shower were excellent. The major complaint here is the fact that I can not understand why Princess would put suites in this location, directly under table and chairs and the pizzeria. We constantly heard chairs and tables being moved, this along with heavy footed people walking provided a less then ideal expeieince. We will never again acquire a stateroom in this location. The cabin steward was excellent and the service he provided was equally excellent.
Seattle was wet tthe day we arrived. We did go up to the Space Needle (although did not see much) and we visited the famous Pikes Market. A great place...
