The Epic at the port of Barcelona
Sunrise from the balcony.

My parents were doing the trans-atlantic cruise and continuing on with the Western Med 7 day cruise from Barcelona. I decided to meet them in Barcelona and join them on the last leg of their cruise. I did the cruise pretty much as they like. We did crosswords and soduko each day, tours arranged through the cruise company and ate at the speciality restaurants almost every night.

I did embarkation without them. I got a transfer to the port with a private company. It was easy. The driver asked me which dock - but it was pretty easy to see from the roadway where we had to go. There was a massive line snaking around the building outside. I got out and got in the line across the parking lot. It was not till I got to the front that I found out it was just the line for dropping your bags off... I was walking in with my bag since my parent's already had their cabin and I didn't need to wait until 'the cabins were ready'. It was not clear what line was for what.

I then joined the massive line in the sun to get in to the building. :( It took quite a while but it was quicker than I expected. I went through security then over to the check in lines. I got my key card and signed in and left my credit card. I expected to have my picture taken and go to the big waiting room like in Miami but after checking in, you just walked right onto the ship.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Balcony

Cabin BB

Typical balcony cabin for this ship. Stupid bathroom setup where the toilet and shower are in the main room just enclosed in frosted glass. A privacy curtain is available. Tiny sink is almost on the bed. I agree with others that there was not enough light over the sink and the mirror.

Tons of storage space.

Nice size balcony. I don't know if it was our floor, the side of the ship we were on or what - but our balcony was often soaked so we couldn't sit out. It was super nice to pop out all the time and look out.

I did not sleep on the regular beds so cannot comment but I was surprised that the couch was not a terrible bed.

Port Reviews

Florence (Livorno)

I wandered around, seeing some lovely churches and 'little Venice'. I then headed up the main shopping street and then over to the market. So many fresh vegetables, meats and fish. Lots of lovely bakery food.

I then found a cafe and had a wonderful cappucino.

Around the market and on the main street, there were lots of people trying to sell you things on the street but not nearly as obnoxious as in the Carribean.

Cannes

We explored on our own. We climbed the hill to see the Musée de la Castre. There is a tower you can climb up in and have an amazing view. The stairs are a bit daunting but worth it. Take note - they close for lunch. The ladies at the ticket place did not tell us this so we did not have a lot of time and we didn't not want to come back after lunch since we wanted to head back to the ship.

We then headed down to the beach and dipped our feet in - to say we did. It was lovely and had I been with kids, i know we would have spent the day on the beach.

There was a lot of construction on the street by the beach but I suppose that is a part of life...
