Disappointment was more about the ship than the cruise itself.

We chose this cruise as a replacement for a Caribbean cruise we no longer wanted to take. This review is more about the ship than the cruise itself. I've sailed on Princess many times but this was our first cruise on the new Royal (or any of her sister ships). I've always enjoyed Princess' ships - but I did not enjoy the Royal. I adore the Caribbean, Crown, and their sisters, but the Royal is a whole new ballgame. It's not an improvement.

Pros of the Royal:

- Much better buffet than on the earlier classes of ship (though I think they are now refreshing the buffets on all ships).

Port Reviews

King's Wharf

Traveled to the beaches by ourselves. Transportation a bit overcrowded because of the two ships in port, but we got around ok. Also went to town for a bite to eat: all very nice.

Lisbon

We took our own, private excursion, which was a nice tour around the city and the environs. Lovely city.

Bilbao

Again we took a private tour, which also included a tapas tour of Bilbao tapas bars. All very nice. In the morning we drove out to Gernika, which was very informative and interesting to see.

Southampton

With our extra day we did our own small pub tour, which was lovely: good food and good beer.
