Sail Date: Jan 2010
Cabin: Family Ocean View with Balcony

Have not sailed on a large ship in last 25 years. This was a last minute decision. We were able to obtain the last balcony cabin. It was the family veranda. A bedroom with vanity and a sitting room with two sofa beds, large buffet type piece of furniture, two nightstands , a coffee table and a TV. The veranda was huge. About 16X8, I would have liked a magnifying mirror and a clock in the cabin. A pleasant surprise to have so much space and lots of storage. The ship needs refurbishing. Lamps in room were rusted, chair worn and dirty. Throughout the ship I saw areas needing attention. They were painting some areas while we were on board. The smell was quite offensive. The cost was very reasonable. Our last four cruises were on Regent. You cannot compare because they are not the same class. Embarkation a mess in San Juan. NO representative came out to give us any information or updates.Once the gate was opened the registration went smoothly. Our cabin was ready.Late seating was 8:45. We left the dining room each night at 11 PM. Waiters were very personable and friendly but the service could have been better. Food was varied and good. I would have enjoyed larger vegetable portions. The Olympic was fabulous. Food outstanding as was the service . Well worth the extra cost. Our ship excursions were done well and were enjoyable.Felt guest service person could have had a better understanding of English. The service was attentive when they were charging a fee. For price of cruise I guess this is the way it is. I had breakfast and lunch everyday in the spa cafe. Very quiet and no crowds. I do not like the large buffets. Would have enjoyed some ethnic food. They did have an Asian buffet and sushi everyday. The Cova coffee lounge was also a favorite for Tapas before dinner and try the Sangria. Best ever. Bingo was not as advertised and the last day they did not award the roll over amount. Everyone was quite upset.Smoking in the Cosmos lounge bothered me. I do not like smelling cigarette smoke. Also the dessert buffet was in the Cosmos and it was way too small.Ports were good. Some were new to us.Not many exercise classes.Of course they were selling some fitness program.Best place to fill your empty water bottle is the Spa.They do put bottled water in your room cabin pitcher,so bring on board your own empty water container and you won't have to pay for bottled water. You can embark with 2 bottles of wine also.Someone had an iron and they took it from her. Not bad for the money but don't expect great service or luxury.Would I go on Celebrity again? Maybe.
