The Panama canal was on our bucket list and there are not a lot of cruise lines that offer this cruise. The canal is awesome and such a marvel to see and go through, and the ship was nice, but nothing special. We were very disappointed that during our early morning hours (7am) venture through the canal we were standing at the back of the ship in the Sanctuary to take pictures of the canal and even though that "overly priced specialty pampering" was not to open for another hour we were run off and not allowed to even stand there to take pictures. We weren't lounging or doing anything other than taking what was historical pictures for us, but the staff would not allow us to remain there. Such a disappointment, going that whole way to observe such a fantastic happening, but not even allowed to stand and take pictures. If other cruise lines offered passage through the canal I would certainly look into them and find out what strict policies they have in place for events like viewing the canal. I also wish the ship didn't automatically give you a straw EVERY time they deliver your drink to you. The plastic waste these days is awful and in our case, this was a total waste every time they gave us one. All they have to do is ask if we want one. Santorini's was not good this time. We had eaten there years ago on another cruise, but Olive Garden has better quality food than this one did this time. Not the captain's fault, but we were disappointed we missed Jamaica, it was too windy to port, that was going to be our one beach day.

Canal is great, cruise is ok

Cabin Review

Balcony
Cabin BE
The cabin was ok, nothing special, but nothing wrong with it/not dirty or unkept. I would have loved for the balcony glass to have been cleaned at least once to get the sea spray off, it finally rained toward the end of the cruise which washed it a bit and that helped, but on most of our previous cruises we have had the glass cleaned at least once while in port.
The shower was the smallest shower I have ever been in, anywhere or on any cruise.

  • Aruba
Aruba was beautiful and certainly a place we want to return to for longer. The beaches were clean, we were not hassled at all and found it just a real gem.

Our guide was great, very knowledgeable and since he wore a mic he was easy to hear when not right next to him. We found the people very pushy trying to sell any and everything or begging if not selling. Sitting on a park bench was not enjoyable at all, we had to get up after only a couple on minutes due to the begging and things forced in our faces to buy. Not a place we'd return to for that reason.

Unlike the excursion leader in Columbia, our guide did not have a mic and unless you were standing right next to him, you could not hear him. We moved quickly through the streets, etc. which was fine with us as it was partly a walking tour of old town, but many of the people could not keep up.
He was influenced by many of the folks on the tour to stop and shop as well as stop for ice cream/drinks. The shopping lasted much longer than it should have and 20+ people going into an ice cream shop at once was a BIG mistake.

Super easy to walk from our hotel to the port. Boarding the ship was a breeze.

Coffee in the coffee shop right outside of the cruise terminal was FABULOUS, as were the plantain we found to purchase, but Limon was quite dirty, even at the beach we walked to, as well as town area, everything just seemed dirty. We were expecting Costa Rica to be beautiful, may in the mountains or on excursion, but not in town.
