We chose this cruise because it was out of Port Canaveral. We arrived the night before and stayed at a local hotel and found out that they offered parking. $42 for the week!! Hadn't even left for the cruise and already saved some big bucks! We decided to go to see the port and where the ship might be docking and there seemed to be an awful lot of people around. It worried us because of course we figured they must all be going on our ship. OMG, we thought this will be awful. Then BOOM, there was a rocket. Yup, total bonus. Got to see a rocket launch. Completely unexpected surprise since I had looked on the launch schedule and didn't see anything until April 16 scheduled for launch. What a thrill! The next morning, we had a nice breakfast at the hotel (included) and waited for our scheduled shuttle time. Our shuttle was at the port in less than five minutes. We were there at about 11:00, and were checked in and on the ship in less than 25 minutes. It was a breeze. Thanks to other Cruise Critic reviews, we knew not to go to the Windjammer, avoid the crowds and go to the Solarium Café. What a pleasant place to eat. We had lunch and had plenty of time to wander around before my husband's surprise scheduled massage. As we looked around at the Boardwalk, the Promenade and Central Park, we were just amazed at the amount of space around this ship. It would take days to figure out where everything was! But, off to the spa. This was not necessarily the most pleasant experience. We walked in for his appointment, they offered us a tour of the spa. Each station had a very pleasant presentation on what they do, and encouraged us to make an appointment now to get the best deals. By the 8th station, we were pretty sure if we had experienced all that they offered we would look like completely different people when we got off the ship with our new white teeth, cool sculpted body and refreshed skin. No thanks. Not for us, but maybe someone else. He enjoyed his massage while I walked around some more. By 1:00, our cabins were ready. Yes, the carpet has some wear, yes the sofa has some wear and the chair was wobbly, if I had intended on ever using it, I would have had it replaced, but I never used it. Overall, the cabin was much larger than I had anticipated. There was plenty of storage. If you are all about plugging in, be prepared. There was only one place to plug anything in. I was fine with that because it was a true vacation with no phones. My husband got lost coming from the spa. Poor guy, walked the entire length of the ship only to realize he was not only on the right end, but the right deck. A bit flustered, but he was more than pleased when we stepped out on to the balcony and we prepared to sail away! We had a very scary storm that whipped up right as we were leaving, but, off we went. Dinner was at 5:15 and then 7:00 we scheduled the Ice Show. Next time, I might not schedule anything the first night. I felt like I had been in a tornado. But, dinner was fantastic! The prime rib in the American Icon Dining room was as good if not better than any expensive restaurant. Done perfectly as was my husband's. The service was great, the table company... well, we sat with different folks the next night. I wish I could have counted how many times the man had to tell me they were Diamond Members. He talked so much, we were able to finish our meals and politely excuse ourselves to go to our show. The first night of sleeping was a bit rough. We didn't know until the next day that we were battling 70mph wind gusts! WOW! We thought we saw water hitting the windows in the dining room, but there was minimal ship movement. The Captain was so apologetic, but honestly, compared to our other cruise that had a rough night, this was nothing. Our first all cruising day was interrupted by a medical emergency stop in Nassau. We were there all of 20 minutes, then back out to sea. Again, nothing but apologies from the Captain, but geez, It's ok. Breakfast in the Windjammer was nothing but a disappointment. Who fries eggs and then leaves them under a heat lamp? Yuck! We never went back there for breakfast. I recommend either Johnny Rockets or the Main Dining room. Otherwise, it is the same buffet food everywhere you go. Breakfast was not really great on the ship except ala carte on the main dining room menu. Lunches were good all over. Our preference was the Solarium Café, but don't cheat yourself out of the beef sandwich at the Park Café. Go there! Be prepared... it is a slab of wonderful prime rib on a caraway seed roll. Excellent!!! But, if you are a salad person and are trying to avoid the red meats and desserts, the Solarium café is where to go. We saw all of the shows except Cats, I didn't reserve it. I just didn't want to waste 3 hours of cruise time in one spot. There was too much to see and do. Come Fly with Me was fantastic and our Headliner was The Edge Effect. Wow, what a great singing group.. Make sure you book your shows in advance as soon as you can. The standby lines were crazy long. Thankfully, that was another Cruise Critic hint I got by reading reviews. I did speak to folks that didn't get to see any of the shows because they hadn't booked them in advance. The pools got super crowded on cruise days but the usual towels laying in the sun for hours getting their tans were there. I just wish there was some way not to "reserve" chairs for hours at a time. It is supposed to be a courtesy but it is just out of control. The main dining room meals were all really really good. We don't feel like we missed a thing by not eating at the specialty restaurants. We ate there every night except one time and our table mates were fabulous (after that first night) We had a blast with our waiter who provided us with the BEST services, Ikadek Adnyana was the most fun and sweet man. We gave him a hard time periodically for fun, but he took it in stride and was always so pleasant. The only complaint if I have to have one was the desserts weren't anything special, but thank goodness. Maybe I gained less weight because of that. Our cabin was comfortable. There was plenty of hot water and water pressure was great. Our cabin steward, Fabian Oliver Spann was so good, and stealth like! He could whip up our room in no time. We called him "Fabulous Fabian" and he really was. The casino was smoky but not like on our other cruise. I actually noticed it more on the deck above it in the stairwell, like they were blowing it out or something. I never noticed a designated non smoking night there, but I wasn't really looking for it either. The Boardwalk was awesome! But our favorite was Central Park. What a quiet peaceful place to relax. It was easy to forget you were on a ship. Yes, the bird sounds are fake and the cricket sounds at night are fake, but we saw real birds and a couple of ghecos. Stowaways I assume. The neighborhood concept really works for dividing the crowds. Except for possibly the pool area on cruise days, the ship never seemed like it had 6000 people on it. The excursions we took were the Dolphin Cove at Jamaica, really good, lots of dolphin time and the Atlantis Submarine in Cozumel. That was really good. A complete surprise. Not what we expected. It's a real submarine and the staff was great! We did the self assist when we got off of the ship and it was pretty speedy. All in all, this was a fantastic cruise and we will definitely cruise the Oasis or any of the Oasis Class ships again. Cruises are what you make of them. If you are an unhappy person, you will probably be unhappy. If you are a boring person, you will probably be bored. But we are happy and over all positive people that don't ask much of others. We had a great time. Reviews on Cruise Critic can sometimes sound scary and awful. Then the next one is great. Go on the cruise and see for yourself. Totally worth the money.

Cabin Review

Superior Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin D6

Worn in places but very comfortable and spacious. Lots of hot water and plenty of water pressure. Great view from the balcony. Centrally located and very quiet.

Port Reviews

Labadee

Our favorite stop every time. Clear relaxing beach time with a floating beach mat and a nice bbq lunch. Don't forget a Labadoozle.
