NCL Star on way back to ship on Cabo tender.
Yelplata, Mexico at the beach

We got into Los Angeles the day before and stayed at the LAX Embassy Suites. On cruise day I had reserved a car service which got us to the pier on time around 10:30 AM. Lines were reasonable and moved steadily and we had a Group 4 boarding pass - we weren't sitting very long before boarding started around 11:30. We ate in the Versailles MDR for lunch which was ok (we found that MDR food and service was a lot better at dinner than at lunchtime) . Muster went smoothly and the sailaway party was great even though we didn't sailaway for some time afterward.

Had reservations at Cagney's - filet mignon was ok but ribeye was excellent . Service was very slow on the first night (apparently not as slow as the MDRs were that night). Used the buffet for breakfast daily which made it good for quick in and outs and for occasional dessert runs at 9 PM (helped that the cabin was a deck down and by the aft stairs). Best food on the ship was Le Bistro - managed to secure two 5:30 PM reservations during the week. Topsiders Grill or Bar by the pool was also a good choice - never much of a line (more for ice cream than for drinks). Entertainment was good (went to all but Paradis) . Enjoyed Deal or No deal the best and getting the daily trivia game in! Took a cabo Baja Highlights tour which gave a good introduction to the area in and the PV Yelplata tour which was utterly fascinating. In Mazatlan we just got a taxi to the central market and wandered around for a few hours.

Crew was excellent - gave great service throughout. It definitely pays to be positive. We had a malfunctioning thermostat which was repaired promptly and there was a mixup with the cancelled Cabo excursions (got the tickets anyway- so had to return them). Didn't have any issues with water or toilets as reported in other reviews. Debarkation went smoothly too- once you got into Customs it took like maybe 5 min to the transfer bus. All in all it was a great cruise!

Cabin Review

Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MB

Just enough room for 3 people and luggage- lots of shelves, drawers with a good size closet. Luggage all fit under the bed. Sofabed was a bit hard but usable. Great balcony views. Well worth the extra cost over a balcony especially more than 2 people. Room was just off of the aft elevator bank which made it very convenient to most areas. No noise from the spa or the elevators (some noise from kids running down to the Splash Zone).

Port Reviews

Mazatlan

The best port of the 3 as it was the most authentic. Got a taxi to the central market ($7) and wandered around, bought some souvenirs, visited the cathedral and took a taxi back to the pier. The merchants at the pier were not pushy and prices were reasonable compared to Cabo or PV.
