New Years Cruise and 20th Wedding Anniversay

Sail Date: December 2009
Destination: Western Caribbean
Embarkation: Galveston
What a large and beautiful ship. Cruised over the New Years holiday with 3 kids, ages 2,10 and 13. We had to get 2 rooms but had the adjoining and it was nice to have all the space. Embarkation was a breeze and much easier than we thought. Was on board within 45 minutes. We choose to drive down the day before the cruise and stayed at the Holiday Inn on the Beach. They provided shuttle service to and from the pier. This was nice not worry about parking at the pier, highly recommend it.

The Conquest is a beautiful ship! Plenty of activities for all of us. The older kids did do some of the Camp Carnival activities but mainly in the evenings after dinner. Lido deck was a fun place to hang out and enjoy the weather but does get crowded and sometimes hard to get chairs. The kids very much enjoyed karaoke nights.

Our dining room waiters were friendly and food was good. Buffets were okay, not bad, just not incredible. The Sandwich and Burger buffets at the back of Lido More deck were the best.

Shows were good but nothing really wowed us.

Debarkation was the worst of the trip, took us 2 hours to get off the boat, mainly because we chose to check our bags the night before, too many bags with all the kids. Next time, we will pack less and take our own luggage off at debarkation. Less

Cabin review: 4A1422 Interior

Rooms were fine and not a lot of engine noise like I originally thought. We had 2 rooms that adjoined 1422/1424 so we had lots of space. Only significant noise was crew outside the cabins during clean up times. Bed were comfortable and window views were great. You can actually sit in the windows and read.

Port and Shore Excursions

Cozumel was very tropical and had incredible weather. There is a long walk from the boat to the pier so be prepared if you have lots of bags. The shopping at the Pier was the best we'd seen from all other ports. We chose to do Chankaanaab Park and took a taxi that was available once you were outside the shopping area. Never had any trouble with Taxi service. Chankaanaab Park was a short drive from the Pier and had just about everything you can imagine within the park. Pools, beach areas, swim with the dolphins, snorkeling, bungee jumping on trampoline, beach side restaurants and bars, nature walk and even playground areas. Lots to look at and do. We would of like to do the swim with the dolphins but didn't have enough time. Would of loved to spend longer at this park and would definitely go back. Very tropical relaxing place.

Grand Cayman is such a beautiful island, the clearest water we've even seen. You have to take the tender boats to get to the island. Hardest part was getting on the tender boat from the Conquest, long lines. The kids enjoyed taking the tender boats. We chose to do another excursion on our own, Captain Marvins, 1/2 day Stingray City and Snorkel trip, and booked it online. We chose Captain Marvins based on reviews. They were approx. 2 blocks from the Carnival pier, easy walking distance. Easy check in then shuttle to the boat. Nice to take a look around the island on the way. Our tour had approx. 25 people, not too crowded. Boat ride to Stingray City was about 45 minutes, nice ride. The tour guides on the boat were very friendly and helpful. Once arriving at Stingray City, the guides held the stingray and gave lots of details about them and how to hold them. The guide actually held the stingray and we held it on the opposite side. We also gave the stingray a kiss which they say brings you 7 years of good luck. The sandbar at Stingray City is shallow and incredible clear. You can see everything in the water. After leaving Stingray City, we stopped at 2 different snorkel spots and saw lots of coral/fish. Beautiful! Highly recommend Captain Marvins. Take extra cash for a photographer on board if you wish to purchase pictures, also tip money for the employees on board.

We went on our own excursion in Jamaica to Doctor's Cave Beach. Asked for a taxi at the Pier in Montego Bay and they guided us wonderfully. Taxi service was easy and once in the beach, wow, so beautiful and crystal clear waters. Didn't see lots of fish but they did have water trampolines and the kids loved them. For an extra fee, believe it was around $10.00 US, they will provide an umbrella and chairs, well worth the price. They also have waiters inside the beach who will come and ask if you like drinks or food. That was a nice option. We would definitely go back to this beach.
