Cabin: Family Balcony

We have done transatlantic 3 years running and fancied a change this year. It was also a good deal with drinks and gratuities package. We booked inside and were contacted a few weeks before departure and were delighted to secure a balcony cabin albeit chosen by NCL. Arrived and embarkation process and buffet all great. I will review issues with cabin separately. The interiors of public areas Including elevators were very dark and We found it quite depressing it was very gloomy during the day and low lighting in evening. The food was good but only just warm and service was sporadic in the restaurants. We found the best was the buffet, which is a sad indictment of the Main restaurants. Only hot food on voyage was in speciality restaurants. Entertainment was best we have seen on cruise ship. Special mention to singers and dancers. Favourite was Howl at the moon duelling pianos. The free style dining is not working. Some nights we could walk in others we didn’t stand a chance. At the end of it we would go back if the deal was good but comparisons with others probably not. On balance only getting 1 out of 3 main things right is not good. Food not good, cabin not good,a glass door on a toilet. Entertainment brilliant but theatre not big enough. Ironically everything eating is freestyle but entertainment you have to book? Didn’t do there shore excursions but looked plentiful.

Cabin Review

Family Balcony

Cabin B2

We were allocated this and it’s is solid balcony so you can only see when you stand. A few nights in we had scraping noises. Transpires as last cabin we backed onto a main service area which had been allocated a paint stripping and refurbishment during crossing. Knowing this we were still allocated this cabin. It should have been left off line. On complaining next day we were abruptly advised we should have reported during the night so they could check out whether it was true !!!!!!. One would think left hand and right hand would speak to each other. The next day it went on all day but this was ok as we were on deck most of the day. We more problems with constant phones ringing img in service area during the night. Another night a ladder had not been secured on top of the bridge so the metal buckle banged all night. Again complained and same thing. I did point out we were at sea so nothing could be done. One complain5 was followed up and we were left a bottle of wine and cheese saying thanks for feedback. It was a complaint and we never received an apology so sent wine backed as AI anyway. My advice don’t accept cabin. Room attendant great but noise disruption from service area not worth it
